American International School AISVN goes bankrupt, more than 1,400 students call for help

With the desire to return to school after the scandal of the Chairman of the AISVN School Board, the representative of the parents of more than 1,400 students studying at the school said that their only wish is to return to school to complete the unfinished courses.

“Our simplest dream is to return to AISVN to study. We really don’t understand many things about adults, but for us, the happiest thing every day is to go to school. That desire is always present every day, every hour, every minute…”, a student wrote in a petition sent to the authorities inthe education sector.

It is known that the school representative informed parents of the closure of the school on March 18, 2024 without any valid reason. Over the past year, many students have also transferred to other schools, but due to the new learning environment and the urgent time, not all students have been able to adapt to the changes. Some students have had to stay home from school so that their families can find a more suitable school.

Faced with this situation, an interdisciplinary working group including the Department of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City Police and representatives of Nha Be District People's Committee coordinated with the AISVN School Council to hold a meeting with parents on March 30, 2024 to resolve the difficulties. Previously, the school unexpectedly ended the 2023-2024 school year on April 26, 2024. On June 28, 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued a decision to suspend AISVN School for 12 months from July 1, 2024 due to insufficient financial and human resources to maintain teaching and learning.

Up to now, parents have had to run around asking to transfer their children to another school. Many parents who cannot afford to transfer have had to let their children stay home from school for a whole year. “The school has collected nearly 3,500 billion VND from us and then stopped operating due to lack of funds. So where is the money we have received all this time?”, a parent representative asked.

In the urgent petition, parents asked the authorities to have a plan to ensure AISVN school resumes operations after the suspension period ends or to have a plan to let other investors in to fulfill related financial obligations.

On the eve of the new school year, the issue once again heated up with the wishes of thousands of students who used to study at AISVN, many of whom wanted to return to school, to continue the learning environment and curriculum that they were familiar with.
