On October 14, 1940, the Bac Son guerrilla team was established as a local armed force. Since then, the Bac Son guerrilla team has continuously grown and matured. Many of them have become historical figures and famous revolutionary activists of Vietnam. With ardent patriotism, brave fighting spirit, and willingness to sacrifice themselves for the cause of national liberation, the Bac Son guerrilla team has become a great pride of the homeland and country.
When it was first established, the Bac Son guerrilla team mainly consisted of active party members and the masses who had just participated in the Bac Son uprising. From a guerrilla team, it developed into a National Salvation Army platoon. Under the direct leadership of the Party Central Committee, the Bac Son guerrilla team gathered in its ranks talented leaders, the most loyal party members of the district, and a number of capable comrades from the lowlands.

In the guerrilla team, we see the presence of people who participated in revolutionary activities very early in the district. They are comrades Duong Van Thong, Ha Khai Lac, Nguyen Van Phong (aka Mai Huyen), Duong Van Thuc - the first party members of Bac Son district in the Party cell established by comrade Hoang Van Thu in 1936. Besides, there are comrades Duong Than Tan, Hoang Dinh Rue, Luong Dinh Son, Duong Van Tach - secretaries of the Party cells of Bac Son, Hung Vu, Huu Vinh, Vinh Yen communes... Most of them are members of the Bac Son Chau Uy, participating in directing the activities of Party organizations in the district . In addition, there are other comrades such as Hoang Van Han, Duong Cong Binh, Duong Quoc Vinh, Nong Van Cun (aka Thai Long)... They are the ones who commanded or actively participated in the Bac Son uprising on September 27, 1940. In late 1940 and early 1941, to maintain and develop the movement, the Party Central Committee supplemented the Bac Son guerrillas with a number of capable cadres from the lowlands and other places, such as Luong Van Tri, Chu Van Tan, Nguyen Cao Dam, Hoang Van Thai, Bui Thong, and comrade Ai... In mid-1941, after the 8th Party Central Committee Conference in Pac Bo (Cao Bang), the Party Central Committee continued to send comrade Phung Chi Kien - a talented military cadre, a member of the Party Central Committee Standing Committee, to take charge of the Bac Son - Vo Nhai base, directly commanding the Bac Son National Salvation Army platoon.
It is easy to see that the Bac Son guerrilla team is a gathering place for many excellent military cadres of the Party. Comrade Phung Chi Kien and Luong Van Tri are well-trained military cadres, both of whom were selected by the Party and Uncle Ho to study at the Whampoa Military School (China). They are people who are steadfast in political theory, have extensive practical experience, and have participated in revolutionary activities abroad, then returned to the country to participate in leading the Vietnamese Revolution. Comrade Luong Van Tri is a member of the Standing Committee of the Northern Regional Party Committee in charge of military affairs. Comrade Phung Chi Kien has worked with Uncle Ho for many years, and is highly trusted and expected by him. Besides, there is comrade Hoang Van Thai, a lowland cadre who participated in a military-political training course in Hiep Hoa (Bac Giang) in 1940 organized by the Northern Regional Party Committee. He was a talented military officer, one of 34 soldiers of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army. He later became the Chief of the General Staff, a senior general of the Vietnam People's Army. Although he did not attend formal training courses, comrade Chu Van Tan emerged as a practical leader in the locality. He was familiar with the terrain, was a good guerrilla commander, and made many contributions to the construction of the revolutionary base in Bac Son - Vo Nhai. Immediately after the Bac Son National Salvation Army Platoon was established, he was entrusted by the Party Central Committee with the task of commanding a team to escort and protect a delegation of senior Party officials including comrades Truong Chinh, Hoang Van Thu, Hoang Quoc Viet, Tran Dang Ninh and two comrades representing Central and Southern Vietnam to attend the 8th Central Conference in Pac Bo (Cao Bang) chaired by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc. After a difficult and arduous journey from Bac Son through Binh Gia, up to Trang Dinh, to Long Chau (China) and then back to Pac Bo. The team successfully completed its mission, ensuring the safety of the Party Central Committee officials during this special mission. When the Second Salvation Army Platoon was established on September 15, 1941 in Trang Xa (Vo Nhai, Thai Nguyen), comrade Chu Van Tan was assigned the task of commander. In early 1942, the Bac Son and Vo Nhai revolutionary movements encountered many difficulties due to the enemy's suppression and terror. He led the National Salvation Army soldiers to China to reorganize the ranks, preserve the force, and then continued to return to the country to operate. Later, he became one of the first generals of the army, holding many important positions such as Minister of National Defense , Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Viet Bac Autonomous Region... Through the process of operation, the Bac Son guerrillas grew more and more mature, becoming the core force of the Bac Son revolutionary movement. They actively built the Bac Son - Vo Nhai base, bravely resisting the sweeps and terror aimed at destroying the enemy's revolutionary base . In their activities and combat, the Bac Son guerrillas always demonstrated absolute loyalty to the Party, ready to sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Comrades Phung Chi Kien and Luong Van Tri fought until the last moment and heroically sacrificed themselves before the enemy's guns. Comrades Hoang Van Han, Hoang Dinh Rue, Duong Than Tan, Ma Viet Vinh, Ma Viet Thon, Hoang Doan Hoang, Hoang Van Kham, Luong Dinh Son... were imprisoned, murdered, and sacrificed by the enemy at a very young age. Comrades Ha Khai Lac, Nguyen Cao Dam, and Nong Thai Long spent years actively working in Long Chau (China) with comrade Chu Van Tan to consolidate and maintain the movement. Later, comrades Ha Khai Lac and Nguyen Cao Dam both became members of the Administrative Committee of the Viet Bac Autonomous Region.
The Bac Son guerrillas set shining examples of revolutionary qualities and heroic sacrifice for the revolutionary cause of the nation. Their great contributions contributed to bringing independence and freedom to the country, adding to the glorious history of the nation, and extending the revolutionary tradition of the homeland of Lang Son.
