The APEC High-Level Week took place over six days with the theme "Building a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All".
The event will focus on three main priorities, including connecting to build a resilient region and promote inclusive economic prosperity; fostering an innovative environment for a sustainable future; and strengthening an equitable and inclusive future for all citizens.
The APEC 2023 High-Level Week was held in San Francisco, USA.
Assessing the significance of the event for development cooperation in the Asia- Pacific region, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung said: “APEC is a regional economic forum comprising 21 member economies, including some of the world's largest economies.
Against the backdrop of the current global situation with numerous uncertainties and challenges, this APEC economic forum will be an opportunity for leaders of 21 economies to discuss these challenges and measures to overcome them, as well as to coordinate policies among economies, how to bring about the fastest economic recovery, and to ensure healthy and robust economic development in the future.
The theme "Building a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All" encapsulates the goal of this APEC Forum. With three key focuses on connectivity, innovation, and inclusiveness, I am confident that the leaders of the 21 economies will discuss many issues of current global economic concern.
The most prominent, important, and pressing issues today, such as maintaining sustainable supply chains, digital transformation, digital trade, energy transition, combating climate change, and the green economy, are issues that the whole world is currently very concerned about."
President Vo Van Thuong and his wife will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the APEC Summit Week and participate in bilateral activities in San Francisco from November 14th to 17th. The President's visit takes place against the backdrop of the 30th anniversary of the first APEC Summit held in the United States and marks the 25th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to APEC.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung.
Sharing his thoughts on the significance of the President's trip, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung said: "President Vo Van Thuong's participation in this year's APEC Forum demonstrates Vietnam's support for multilateralism in general, as well as for the APEC process in particular. Vietnam is a very active member; in fact, Vietnam has hosted APEC twice."
Vietnam has made numerous contributions and initiatives to promote the APEC process, and its participation demonstrates support for APEC principles and processes. Vietnam is ready to cooperate with member countries to further develop this process, ensuring sustainable economic development and creating new opportunities and advantages, especially conditions to overcome current difficulties, shortcomings, instabilities, and challenges posed by the complex global situation.
Attending APEC this year in the US is also an opportunity for Vietnam to promote bilateral relations with the US after the two sides upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. During the APEC meeting, the President and the delegation also had many activities in San Francisco, meeting with US government officials, as well as American academics and businesses to implement the agreements reached when the two sides decided to upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum currently has 21 member economies, including the world's leading economies (the US, China, Japan, etc.), 9 members of the Group of 20 (G20), and many dynamically developing emerging economies, representing approximately 38% of the world's population, contributing 61% of global GDP and 47% of global trade.
During its 25 years of participation in APEC, Vietnam has made active and proactive contributions to the APEC Forum, helping to promote peace, stability, cooperation, and regional economic integration, and maintaining APEC's role as the leading economic integration mechanism in the Asia-Pacific.
