At the Nebuta Festival, a series of large, impressively decorated floats called "nebuta" depict historical warriors. Locals spend a year designing and creating the floats. The characters depicted on the floats are often mythological figures, gods, historical figures, kabuki actors, or even television characters, especially from historical "taiga" dramas. Dancers dressed in "haneto" costumes dance and shout to the sounds of flutes and drums around the floats. Spectators and visitors are also invited to attend.
Not only locals, but also many foreign tourists especially love this festival. A tourist said: “If you want to experience Japanese culture, you cannot miss the Nebuta festival. You can attend this festival for free, witnessing the parade of giant dolls, up to 9 meters wide and 5 meters high. This is a very famous festival in Japan, known by many people around the world . Coming here, you also have the opportunity to enjoy seafood dishes with great flavors”.
The Nebuta Festival is a summer festival in the Tohoku region, held from August 2 to 7 every year. The processions usually start at around 7pm, except on the last day when the parade takes place in the afternoon. The festival ends with a fireworks display that lasts about 2 hours, with the best viewing spots along the riverbank or from the bridge over Aomori Bay.
