The youth of Da Nang remember the principle of "drinking water and remembering the source."

Inspired by President Ho Chi Minh's teachings on the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," the city's youth have implemented many models and activities to care for those who have rendered meritorious services, most notably the "We are always by your side, Mom" ​​model.

Implemented by the Da Nang Youth Union for over 5 years, the "We are always by your side, Mom" ​​model is a spiritual gift for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, while also fostering revolutionary ideals and love for the homeland in the younger generation.

Caring for Heroic Vietnamese Mothers

To enhance the role and responsibility of young people in implementing policies for war veterans and their families, since July 2021, the Da Nang City Youth Union has been implementing the "We are always by your side, Mom" ​​model. Every two months, local Youth Union branches organize visits to encourage and support the mothers, helping them clean their homes, tidy their altars, cook family meals, and provide assistance during illness.

Recently, the Youth Union Council of Cam Le Ward, along with students from the area, visited and presented gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Phan Thi Trinh. Her husband and daughter bravely sacrificed their lives for the country. After the country achieved peace, she lives with her son and his wife and grandchildren. In her small house, Mother Trinh slowly recounted the years of tenacious struggle against foreign invaders, deeply moving the Youth Union members and students.

In gratitude, the students presented Mrs. Trinh with a portrait they had created themselves. The painting depicts her gentle face with gray hair and kind eyes. "Every year, youth groups, young teachers, and students come to visit and chat with me. I'm very happy to receive the attention of the younger generation," Mrs. Trinh said.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Cam Le Ward Youth Union, the locality is currently caring for and supporting Heroic Vietnamese Mother Phan Thi Trinh. Through the "We are always by your side, Mother" model, local youth union branches regularly visit, chat with, organize free health check-ups, and encourage her. Through this, the local youth hope to spread gratitude for the great sacrifices made by previous generations for the independence and freedom of the country.

Preserving Mother's Memories

In 2025, the Da Nang Youth Union will implement the model "Da Nang Youth Preserving Poetry from Heroic Mothers". This is considered a meaningful extension of the "We are always by your side, Mom" ​​model, aiming to contribute to preserving the precious cultural values ​​and historical memories of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.

Accordingly, during each visit, the youth union members not only chat with and encourage the mothers but also record, film, and transcribe the folk songs, rhymes, and poems that the mothers still know and sing whenever their children visit. These valuable materials are systematized and widely shared on digital platforms and in community activities, aiming to spread revolutionary traditions to the younger generation.

Recently, the Youth Union and the Student Union of Duy Phuoc No. 1 Primary School in Nam Phuoc commune organized a visit and presented gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Huynh Thi Hue. This year, Mother Hue is 103 years old. Her husband died in the resistance war against the French, and her son died in the resistance war against the Americans. In a warm atmosphere, teachers and students prepared a meal to offer to the fallen soldiers and chatted with Mother Hue.

During the program, many students sang in unison the song "Who Loves President Ho Chi Minh More Than Young Children?" as a tribute to Mother Hue. After the song, Mother Hue and her son shared their memories of the arduous wartime period with the students. The youth union members carefully recorded each lyric and filmed each story to create meaningful media products to spread awareness among the school's students.

Ms. Le Thi Thu Thao, Head of the Youth Union at Duy Phuoc No. 1 Primary School, said that linking the "We are always by Mom's side" model with the "Da Nang Youth Preserving Poetry from Heroic Vietnamese Mothers" model helps students gain more vivid practical experiences. Through many meetings and listening to the stories of the mothers, the children understand more about the value of peace, learn to love their families, and develop an awareness of preserving the traditions of their homeland.

According to Nguyen Ba Duan, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union and President of the City Youth Federation, the "We are always by your side, Mom" ​​model is not only a profound expression of gratitude to the women who suffered many sacrifices and losses during the war, but also contributes to educating the younger generation about beautiful and responsible ideals. Through this model, the city's youth continue to uphold the patriotic tradition, spreading the national values ​​of "Drinking water, remember the source," and "Eating fruit, remember the one who planted the tree." This is also a key task of the Youth Union in building a generation of young people who live with ideals and a sense of responsibility towards their homeland and country.

The "We are always by Mom's side" model of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Da Nang City is one of 20 exemplary "Effective Mass Mobilization" models to be implemented and replicated during the 2026-2030 period. Continuing to maintain and enhance the model aims to ensure consistent and sustainable gratitude.
