Late on August 12, FIVB announced the cancellation of some matches of U21 Vietnam at the 2025 Women's U21 Volleyball World Cup in Indonesia. The reason came from the fact that they determined that an athlete in the Vietnamese team was not eligible to compete in the tournament.
FIVB did not specify which athlete it was and the specific reason, only stating that the results of the matches in which this athlete participated for the Vietnamese team were canceled. Afterwards, the Volleyball World website, which is run by FIVB, quietly changed the results of the Vietnamese U21 women's team.
Accordingly, there were 3 matches of the U21 women's volleyball team that had their scores changed from a win to a loss of 0-3. Specifically, the matches against Indonesia (originally won 3-0), Serbia (3-1), Canada (3-1). The match between Vietnam and Argentina (1-3) had its score changed to 0-3.
Only the match where Vietnam won 3-1 against Puerto Rico was kept as it was, because the player who was determined not to be eligible to compete was on the bench.
The rankings of Group A have also changed. U21 Vietnam now falls to the bottom of the table with 1 win, 4 losses, and only 3 points left. This result is equal to Canada, but Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team has to rank lower due to losing secondary indicators.
Also because of falling to the bottom of the table, U21 Vietnam can only participate in the ranking round from 17 to 24, instead of participating in the round of 16 as before. On August 13, Vietnam will face Egypt - the 5th team in group C.
Meanwhile, host Indonesia, who were in the bottom two, have now jumped into the top four. They even moved up to third place, pushing Puerto Rico down to fourth. Serbia was promoted to second place, while Argentina remained first.
Currently, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the Vietnam Sports Department have not yet commented on the serious incident that occurred with the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team.
It is rare for a Vietnamese national sports team to have its results revoked when participating in an international tournament. Tuoi Tre Online will continue to update information related to the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team.
