This fiber optic cable line was put into operation in mid-December 2016 with a length of about 10,400 km. Located under the Pacific Ocean, it has connection points in China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Network operators participating in the APG cable investment include VNPT, Viettel, FPT Telecom, CMC Telecom and are considered to be the cable line that contributes to providing stable transmission with larger capacity for Internet users in Vietnam.
Then, at times such as late December 2022 and January 2023, this submarine optical cable line encountered faults on branches S6 towards Hong Kong (China) and S9 with the fault location of the cable about 151 km from the SEA landing station. These incidents caused the loss of all capacity on the APG cable line.

A representative of an Internet service provider (ISP) shared: "With the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine cable, the expected time to repair and fix the problem on branch S6 connecting to Hong Kong, China has been postponed to near the end of April.
Meanwhile, although the fault on the S9 branch connecting to Singapore and Japan of the APG line was fixed on March 27, the capacity on this branch cable could not be restored due to the discovery of a new problem on the S7 branch. “This is the APG cable segment branching into Vietnam, with the landing point in Da Nang . There is currently no information on a plan to fix this new problem.”
In addition, not only has the time to fix errors on the APG submarine cable been extended, the plan to fix problems on other submarine cables such as AAG, AAE-1, IA has also been adjusted compared to the old schedule that has been announced to network operators.
With AAG - the submarine cable line with errors on 4 branches S1B, S1D, S1I and S1G, instead of being repaired in mid-April as previously scheduled, the updated plan expects the time to fix the error on branch S1G to be from April 27 to May 6; branch S1H will be fixed on April 27. The errors on the other 2 branches of the AAG line, S1B and S1D, currently have no repair schedule.
For the Intra Asia (IA, also known as Lien A) submarine cable, the time to fix the problem that occurred on January 28 on the S1 branch connecting to Singapore has been postponed to the end of April, instead of being completed in the first half of April as previously scheduled.
The good news is that the problem on the S1H branch of the AAE-1 cable line is expected to be fixed in May, from May 2 to May 17, 2 months earlier than the old repair schedule.
A representative of the Vietnam Internet Association assessed that: "If the incidents on all international submarine fiber optic cables are not resolved quickly, Vietnamese network operators will have to spend more money on renting land channels to respond and will have a certain impact on the quality of some services."
Explaining the slow repair of submarine cable errors, a representative of an ISP in Vietnam said that, in addition to new errors arising on the APG cable line, the units managing the submarine cable line have not yet arranged ships to repair the cable.
In fact, although all 5 fiber optic cables have had problems, with the coordination of the Ministry of Information and Communications since mid-February, networks in Vietnam have gradually improved service quality in many ways. Basically, the quality of international connection services is now stable, although there may still be localized slowness.
