Tired of waiting for the benchmark scores, candidates flock to the school's Fanpage to give their opinions.

In this year's admission season, the first challenge candidates face is the weary wait for the benchmark scores .

According to the original plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, by 5:00 p.m. on August 20, training institutions will enter the admission scores and admission results into the system; review and prepare to announce the first round of admission results according to the general schedule. However, on the afternoon of August 20, the Ministry of Education and Training unexpectedly adjusted and extended the virtual filtering process until 12:30 p.m. on August 22, causing the schools' admission scores to be delayed by nearly 2 days.

By the end of August 22, many candidates still could not check the admission scores of some schools. Some schools did not announce their admission scores until the morning of August 23, such as: University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Hanoi University of Education, Academy of Journalism and Communication, etc.

On the Fanpage of Hanoi National University of Education, in the announcement "will announce the benchmark scores at 11am on August 23", there are many comments complaining about the school's delay in the context of thousands of candidates and parents anxiously waiting. This page even had to write "request students to use standard language when commenting". The Fanpage of the University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi also encountered a similar situation when many candidates and parents expressed their frustration.

The head of the training department of a university, which in previous years was “quick” in announcing the benchmark scores, admitted that this year the school took a long time to come up with the final benchmark scores. “This year there are too many things to handle. My school has many conversion tables and many candidates, so it has to be done carefully, so we cannot announce them as early as every year,” he said.

After knowing the benchmark scores, many candidates were disappointed when they fell into the situation of "yesterday they thought they passed, today they failed the university entrance exam". After a day of announcing the benchmark scores, Hanoi Capital University suddenly issued another announcement about the admission score based on the C00 combination based on the high school exam scores increasing by 0.75 compared to the original. Many candidates were shocked when receiving the news, because they thought they passed but suddenly failed. On the school's Fanpage, many candidates rushed to comment on the inconsistent working and announcement methods.

Although this (determining the difference in scores between the C00 group and other admission groups for the method of using high school exam scores to consider admission to majors) has been publicly announced by the Hanoi Capital University, the school has also admitted that the technique of issuing documents is not coherent, causing misunderstandings among candidates and parents, thereby creating negative public opinion. Along with that, the school has severely criticized the individuals in charge and seriously learned from the experience.

Schools struggle to deal with the problem

This year's admission season has seen many problems in the admission process of schools. For example, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi made a mistake when announcing the component subjects of an admission combination (D66), causing many candidates who had the required scores to fail their wishes. Realizing their mistake, the school finally announced a solution, accepting admission for candidates in both types of combinations.

The change in admission requirements also caused difficulties for many candidates applying to the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City. Initially, the school announced that one of the conditions for admission to the Law major was that for combinations of Math and Literature, one of the two subjects must achieve a minimum score of 6 points or higher. However, the school later adjusted the requirement that candidates must achieve a minimum score of 6 points in both Literature and Math to be considered for admission to these majors. Therefore, even though their test scores were higher than the standard score, some candidates were still not admitted to the Law and Economic Law majors. Finally, the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City had to come up with a solution that candidates admitted to the Law majors of the school only need to meet the conditions as initially announced.

Many candidates who registered for Ho Chi Minh City University of Education still had enough points to pass their first choice but were reported as having passed their second choice or not being reported as having passed any choice on the system. Some who did not meet the admission standards were still reported as having passed their first choice due to technical errors.

The school said that due to a technical error, some candidates who did not have enough points were still reported as passing, while at that time the Ministry had completed the virtual filtering, so the candidates could not be considered for other wishes. To ensure the rights of these candidates, the school requested the Ministry of Education and Training to allow them to continue to be considered for admission in the following wishes, and at the same time called on related schools to coordinate and support.

That is why, this year, after knowing the benchmark scores, many candidates who entered the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system as well as the schools were late to see the notification of their admission status or vice versa. Even on many groups on social networks, many candidates shared that even after knowing the benchmark scores of their schools, they were still nervous and did not dare to celebrate.

Sharing with VietNamNet, the vice principal of a university in Hanoi said that this year's enrollment is not like previous years, so schools have more work to do. According to this person, with the incidents that have occurred, even those who are directly involved in enrollment work at the university are also stressed and confused.

“Many problems in the admission process this year are not the fault of the individuals in charge but stem from changes, especially in the general admission method,” he said.

Speaking with VietNamNet , a representative of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) said that some errors in the admission results have been discovered, mainly due to inaccurate data and the establishment of entrance requirements in the admission of some schools.

However, a representative of the Department of Higher Education affirmed that the admission system and algorithm are operating normally and stably.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Education and Training, this year, with a huge amount of data, along with diverse admission methods and conditions of universities and colleges, errors are inevitable, even at a very small rate. As in previous years, errors mainly come from admission input data (methods, conditions, criteria, evidence of priority, foreign language certificates, etc.). In addition, there are also some errors due to manual operations of admission officers.

According to the admission regulations, the Ministry of Education and Training is responsible for resolving errors. If necessary, the Ministry will support, guide and direct other universities to coordinate in handling the issue.
