Admissions methods change
Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong - Head of the Department of University Training, Nha Trang University, said that this year's university admission regulations have many changes that affect both candidates and schools. Specifically, this year, there is no more early admission, all candidates participate in the general admission after the high school graduation exam results (July 16); there is no need to choose an admission method but only need to choose a major, schools will convert scores from the methods to a common score scale for consideration (admission methods are performed virtually at the same time); many different combinations can be used to consider admission to a major... With those changes, along with the high level of differentiation of the exam questions of the high school graduation exams, the admission benchmark is expected to decrease. For Nha Trang University, the benchmark is expected to decrease from 1 to 3 points depending on the major.

Dr. Le Cong Hoan - Head of Training and Quality Assurance Department of Khanh Hoa University said that this year's benchmark score is expected to be different from last year's because this year, candidates will take the graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program and the graduation exam for some subjects (Math, English) is considered by public opinion to be more difficult than previous years. Particularly for Pedagogy majors, it is still necessary to ensure the input quality announced by the Ministry of Education and Training (before 5:00 p.m. on July 21). The most difficult problem for universities today is converting the scores of all methods to a common scale of 30 points (combination of 3 subjects). The Ministry of Education and Training has issued general instructions on this issue; schools have also developed their own rules for each school, and the details will depend on the input score data of all methods.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung - Head of Admissions and Communications Department of Thai Binh Duong University, eliminating the early admission form and only having the main admission period starting from July 16 will help the process become transparent and fair. Candidates cannot submit their applications early to keep their safe spots as before; in return, they will be under greater pressure from careful preparation and timely information updates. For the school, this is an opportunity to implement a more focused, in-depth and effective admission strategy.
Diversity of disciplines
Candidates' major selection trends in recent years have changed a lot. According to Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong, candidates are proactively learning more about labor market needs, job opportunities, income levels and technology trends. Majors related to digital technology, artificial intelligence, logistics, marine economy, food technology, tourism - hotels, e-commerce... are receiving attention. At Nha Trang University, majors with many candidates registering and high benchmark scores in recent years include: Information Technology, Maritime Management and Logistics, English, Marketing, International Business, Hotel Management, Automotive Engineering Technology... These are majors with good job opportunities, multi-disciplinary, in line with modern development trends and international integration. Some traditional majors such as: Aquaculture Science, Aquaculture, Seafood Processing, Machine Manufacturing Technology... have lower registration rates. However, these are special majors, playing an important role in the development of the marine economy and food security, security of sea and island sovereignty, and need attention and investment to attract students. In addition, this year, the school opened 7 new majors and training programs, bringing the total number of majors, majors and training programs to 71.
At Pacific University, in addition to majors related to digital transformation and technology, the group of majors that meet the trend of international integration, studying abroad, exporting labor and working in a global environment: English, Korean, Chinese, Graphic Design, Multimedia Communications, Logistics and Supply Chain Management... have been chosen by many candidates in recent years. This year, the school also introduced training in a number of new strategic majors such as: Semiconductor Technology, Financial Technology (Fintech), Startup Management, State Management.
New and diverse majors create opportunities for candidates to have more choices. However, according to Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong, before registering their wishes, candidates need to understand themselves clearly, starting from their interests, learning abilities, career goals and especially family conditions, and should not follow friends or trends. In addition, they need to carefully research the admission information of the schools, look up from official sources, reputable consulting channels, pay attention to the admission scores of previous years, admission methods and combinations, quotas, and tuition fees of each major and each school. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung said that candidates need to make a list of wishes in order of priority. In which, there should be wishes from 1 to 3 which are the most favorite majors and schools; wishes 4 to 6 are majors close to their passion but have more suitable admission scores; wishes 7 and above are safe options to ensure admission.
