World market developments

The US Dollar Index (DXY) measures the greenback's movements against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) down 0.03%, currently at 98.76.

The US dollar edged lower as markets continued to correct after a weak jobs report raised expectations that the Federal Reserve could cut interest rates next month.

Investors also focused on President Donald Trump's nominations to the Fed's Board of Governors, including his pick to be Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

"The market is in a correction phase right now after the jobs data and the Fed is in no rush to cut rates, and there's no clear signs of inflation," said Eugene Epstein, head of trading and structured products for North America at Moneycorp in New Jersey. "So we're in a 'hanging state' between now and next week's CPI data. And the dollar is adjusting... waiting for that data."

In addition to economic data, the market is also watching personnel changes at the Fed, which could turn the agency more “dovish,” in line with President Trump’s views.

On August 5, President Trump said he would soon announce an interim replacement for Fed Governor Adriana Kugler - who resigned last Friday - as well as a candidate for the next Fed Chair.

He dismissed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as a candidate to replace current Chairman Jerome Powell, whose term expires in May 2026.

Meanwhile, the EUR was almost unchanged against the USD, currently at 1.1569 USD.

In other currency pairs, the dollar rose 0.4% to 147.66 yen, after minutes of the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) June policy meeting showed some members said the BOJ would consider raising interest rates again if trade tensions ease.

The Swiss franc edged down on the day to 0.8077 CHF/USD, after falling 0.5% in the previous session.
