USD exchange rate today May 8, 2025 on the world market
The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 99.41 - up 0.18 points compared to May 7, 2025.

The Fed is expected to keep interest rates unchanged, with investors focused on any clues about the outlook for interest rates as U.S. tariffs add to uncertainty about the economy, according to Reuters. "We're still in a trading range with the (dollar) fluctuating, although we're trading a little stronger today and some of the weakness against Asian currencies earlier in the week has eased a little bit," said Marvin Loh, senior global market strategist at State Street in Boston.
"I don't see today's Fed as an event that could break that trend because we are still in a period of extreme uncertainty as we await the end of this 90-day (tariff) pause and potential deals and a broader understanding of how far the Trump administration wants to push China," Loh added.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and top trade negotiator Jamieson Greer will meet China's "economic czar", He Lifeng, in Switzerland this weekend for talks.
Meanwhile, a successful auction of benchmark 10-year notes showed demand for Treasuries remains intact after a trade war shook investor confidence in U.S. assets.
"The uncertainty around the inflationary impact of tariffs and the longer-term impact of rising inflation expectations forced the FOMC to discourage traders from assuming there will be aggressive rate cuts ahead," said Thierry Wizman , global FX and interest rates strategist at Macquarie.
The greenback rose 0.69% against the yen to 143.335, snapping a three-day losing streak, with Japanese markets reopening after a two-day holiday. The greenback gave up gains and fell 0.04% against the Swiss franc to 0.82190. It hit its lowest level since January 2015 at 0.8032 on Monday.
Swiss National Bank President Martin Schlegel said the bank was ready to intervene in foreign exchange markets and cut interest rates below zero to prevent inflation from falling below its price stability target.
The euro fell 0.07% to $1.135850, after rising 0.48% the previous day.
The Taiwan dollar has surged against the greenback since Mr Trump's April 2 announcement to impose wide-ranging tariffs on trading partners.
The won hit a six-month high at the open on Wednesday, but later fell 1.1%. The Chinese yuan weakened 0.07% against the greenback to 7.216 per dollar as China announced a long-awaited interest rate cut.
