In recent sessions, the USD/JPY exchange rate continued to decline, marking the fourth consecutive session of decline, currently fluctuating around 145.63. The weakening momentum of the greenback reflects the recovery of the Yen's position, as investors increase their expectations that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will continue to take tough actions to control inflation.

Minutes of the BoJ's latest policy meeting showed that more and more members supported maintaining a "hawkish" stance, especially in the context of the Japanese economy recording positive signals in terms of wage growth and domestic purchasing power. BoJ Deputy Governor Shinichi Uchida also stressed the importance of continuing a tight monetary policy to strengthen market confidence and control inflation in a sustainable manner.

The USD/JPY outlook is now tilted towards the yen’s appreciation, as the monetary policy gap between the Bank of Japan (BoJ) and the US Federal Reserve (Fed) narrows. Japan has been posting solid economic data that reinforces inflationary pressures, with wage growth and consumer prices remaining high. Meanwhile, the Fed has shown signs of shifting to a more dovish stance, after the consumer price index (CPI) in April came in at 2.3%, below market expectations.
