Up to now, Son La province has 59 communes meeting new rural standards, of which 5 communes have met advanced new rural standards and 3 districts have escaped poverty: Muong La, Bac Yen and Van Ho.
Notably, the poverty rate in Son La province has decreased over the years. Accordingly, in 2021, the total number of poor households was 63,509 (accounting for 21.66%), and the number of near-poor households was 30,058 (accounting for 10.25%).
This figure has changed significantly when in 2022, the number of poor households decreased to 52,883 households (accounting for 17.83%), down 3.83% compared to 2021, exceeding the target set by the Provincial Party Congress Resolution. The number of near-poor households in Son La province also decreased to 28,702 households (accounting for 9.68%).
In 2023, Son La province strives to reduce the poverty rate according to the poverty standard for the period 2022 - 2025 to about 15.66%.
In addition to implementing the State's general poverty reduction policies, Son La province also implements projects such as: supporting the development of economic and social infrastructure investment in poor districts; diversifying livelihoods, developing poverty reduction models; supporting production development, improving nutrition, etc.
In general, projects of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction are implemented in conjunction with the National Target Program on New Rural Development and the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas.
In order to support sustainable employment so that workers have stable income, improve their lives and gradually escape poverty, from investment capital, districts and cities in the province are continuing to purchase information technology equipment to modernize the labor market information system.
And from the allocated career capital, as of early October 2023, 4 districts (Phu Yen, Van Ho, Yen Chau, Muong La) in the province have organized the 2023 Job Fair with the participation of 66 companies and enterprises inside and outside the province, attracting the participation of over 7,700 workers, students.
Identifying poverty reduction as an important content in the socio-economic development program and plan, in the coming time, Son La province will continue to effectively implement the emulation movement "For the poor - No one is left behind" in the province, district and commune.
Local Party committees and authorities assign responsibilities to help poor households, create conditions and motivate and encourage households to register to escape poverty. At the same time, focus investment resources in a focused, key and sustainable manner, focusing on poor districts and communes with high poverty rates; prioritize support and guidance for households that register to escape poverty to develop production, have sustainable jobs and stable income.
