According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2024, nearly 615,000 students enrolled in universities, accounting for over 85% of those admitted. Of these, 27.86% were admitted through the high school transcript review method. This rate has steadily decreased over the past three years. Compared to 2022, the decrease is 9.32%.
Conversely, the percentage of students admitted through the first-time high school graduation exam score-based admission method exceeded 50% in three years, reaching 52.18%.
This group uses only academic transcript scores, excluding candidates admitted to university based on these scores combined with other criteria such as aptitude test scores, high school graduation exam scores, international certificates, interviews, etc.
Last year, 200 universities announced their admission plans, some of which involved using high school academic records (transcript review).
Accordingly, the school will use the cumulative GPA of the semesters over the three years of high school or the average grade point average of grade 12 based on the chosen subject combination as the basis for admission.
In the 2025 university entrance exam, many schools abandoned the method of admission based on academic transcripts. However, about 70 schools still retain this method .
Regarding the enrollment rate among the total number of high school graduation exam candidates in 2024, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Southeast region ranked highest with 68.28%. This was followed by the Red River Delta with 68.27%. Next were the North Central and Central Coastal regions (58.24%), the Mekong Delta (54.39%), the Central Highlands (53.37%), and the Northern Midlands and Mountains (46.65%).
