On the morning of May 14th, billionaire Jonathan Hạnh Nguyễn celebrated his 75th birthday in a special way by visiting and spending time chatting with pediatric hematology and oncology patients at Children's Hospital 2.
Appearing in his familiar simple attire, wearing a hat and carrying a black bag, he visited each ward, handing out red envelopes containing money and inquiring about the health of the children undergoing treatment.
In response to that affection, the young patients and their relatives surprised him with a simple but touching birthday gift: a birthday song and handmade cards. Many children also excitedly sent wishes for his health, making the atmosphere in the ward more intimate and warm.
Touched by the children's affection, Mr. Jonathan Hạnh Nguyễn could not hide his emotions, repeatedly hugging the young patients and encouraging them to persevere through their treatment.
According to hospital representatives, this is an activity he has maintained during many previous visits to boost the morale of the children and their families on their journey to fight illness. His approachable and simple nature has also led many young patients to affectionately call him "Grandpa."
On this occasion, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Social Work Department at Children's Hospital 2, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Deputy Head of the Social Work Department at Children's Hospital 2, represented the hospital in presenting flowers and expressing their gratitude to him for his companionship and support for pediatric patients over the past period.
Hospital representatives stated that these visits not only have a charitable purpose but also contribute to spreading positive energy and providing moral support to child patients and their families during their prolonged treatment.
Jonathan Hạnh Nguyễn is one of the most prominent businessmen in Vietnam. Before returning to Vietnam to invest, he served as a Financial Inspector for Boeing Subcontractors in the United States and as the General Representative of Philippine Airlines in the Indochina region.
Currently, the Inter Pacific Group (IPPG), which he manages, has invested in numerous projects nationwide, creating jobs for over 25,000 workers and generating nearly $1 billion in annual revenue.
Besides his business activities, the businessman is also known for his many years of philanthropic work. He frequently visits hospitals, orphanages, and disadvantaged areas to personally distribute gifts and provide support to people and sick children.
Many people have shared images of him dressed simply, wearing flip-flops and a hat while distributing charity gifts at hospitals. These everyday images have garnered attention on social media because of the approachable nature of a famous businessman.
Jonathan Hạnh Nguyễn also revealed that he had used his entire retirement fund of over 10 billion VND for charitable activities. When this money ran out, his wife continued to support him to maintain programs helping people in difficult circumstances.
