IDEAL BODY SHAPE
After 2 generations of players born in 2001 and 2003 with limited height defenders, the current U.17 Vietnam generation (born in 2006 - 2007) has a very impressive physique, with 15 players over 1.75 m tall, only 3 players under 1.69 m. Among them are particularly impressive names such as goalkeeper Pham Dinh Hai, Nguyen Bao Ngoc (1.83 m); central defenders Truong Thac Minh, Nguyen Luong Tuan Khai (1.81 m), Bui Van Hoang (1.80 m), Nguyen Huu Trong, Phan Van Thanh (1.83 m); left back Nguyen Hoang Nam (1.77 m), midfielder Nguyen Anh Tiep (1.78 m), striker Dinh Quang Kiet (1.91 m)... These are very potential parameters for the Vietnam team in the next 5 - 7 years.
In Qatar, the "buffalo horn-breaking" boys of coach Hoang Anh Tuan defeated U.17 Qatar 2-0, thanks to Huynh Trieu and Cong Phuong. Before that, the U.17 Vietnam coaching staff flexibly connected the friendly match with U.17 Laos who were training in Qatar, the result was a 0-0 draw. Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan shared: "Through these two international friendly matches, I have data to better evaluate the players' performances. Of course, the teams are all testing, so it is not possible to say who is better in the draw with U.17 Laos and who won against U.17 Qatar. But I am very satisfied with the spirit and attitude of the players. The members all try to support each other, so that each individual can complete their work well, pushing the team to progress every day".
Vietnam U.17 team (right) is one of 4 teams that did not concede any goals in the U.17 Asian qualifiers.
It is expected that at 2:00 p.m. today (May 25), U.17 Vietnam will have its first friendly match in Japan with Kaisanan High School, before meeting U.18 Honda FC (May 28), Tokoha University (May 31) and Shizuoka University (June 2). The fact that U.17 Vietnam will gradually meet stronger opponents will help the team discover and overcome limitations that domestic friendly matches cannot provide. In addition, international matches will help young players overcome confusion and become more confident when facing strong opponents.
C KEY INVESTMENT STRATEGY OF VFF
VFF has invested quite scientifically in this U.17 Vietnam team. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan himself also has high expectations: "Attitude and determination are the strengths of Vietnamese players, so that the players can show their full potential. Remember that the U.17, U.19, U.20 players are the foundation for the big and long-term goals of Vietnamese football. I want the players to show their best so that we can have a truly accurate assessment of future goals."
After finishing the training session in Japan, the U.17 Vietnam team will have 1 week to stabilize the squad and complete the final preparations in Vung Tau before flying to Thailand to participate in the 2023 AFC U.17 Finals taking place from June 15 to July 2, where we are in Group D with Japan, India and Uzbekistan. The goal of U.17 Vietnam at the tournament is to compete for 1 of the top 2 rankings to qualify for the quarter-finals, and further to the semi-finals, which also means winning a ticket to the 2023 FIFA U.17 World Cup in October.
Falling into a rather heavy group D, with two "big names" with brands in youth tournaments, Japan and Uzbekistan, will pose huge challenges for U.17 Vietnam. However, coach Hoang Anh Tuan has faith in the current generation of players who not only have good physiques but also are improving their skills every day.
