"For youth teams, achievements and the development of individual players' abilities must always go hand in hand. Our goal is for the Vietnam U19 team to achieve the best possible results in the tournament, while also becoming a team with its own identity and strong competitiveness to aim for higher levels," said Tran Anh Tu, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
In their opening match of Group A at the Southeast Asian U19 Championship on the afternoon of June 1st, the Vietnam U19 team defeated Timor Leste U19 with a score of 3-0. All three goals for Vietnam U19 were scored by striker Cong Hau, who plays for The Cong Viettel .
According to Vice President Tran Anh Tu, in this group, U19 Indonesia is the strongest opponent for U19 Vietnam. Besides possessing many quality players who participated in the U17 World Cup, U19 Indonesia has many players who train abroad, along with the advantage of being the host nation. The other opponent, U19 Myanmar, has also made progress in youth development.

Therefore, the Vietnam U19 team needs to maintain focus and not be complacent against any opponent. However, Mr. Tran Anh Tu emphasized that the professional preparation of the Vietnam U19 team has also been very thorough, with training plans and squad reviews developed early on.
Ahead of the Southeast Asian U19 Championship, the Vietnamese U19 team was given the opportunity to train in Japan. This provided the coaching staff with a basis for assessing the team's strength, refining the lineup, and improving tactics.
According to Mr. Tran Anh Tu, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has always recognized that international training and competitions help young players accumulate experience and improve their professional skills.
"The Southeast Asian U19 Championship is a step in the roadmap towards the 2027 Asian U20 Qualifiers and beyond, preparing the Vietnamese U23 team as well as the national team. The important thing is not just the results of a tournament, but creating a continuous flow from the youth teams to the national team," said Mr. Tran Anh Tu.
According to the schedule, Vietnam U19 will play their second match against Myanmar U19 at 4 PM on June 4th.
