The final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship between U23 Indonesia and U23 Vietnam will take place at 8:00 p.m. tonight, July 29, at Bung Karno Stadium. Evaluating the match with Tri Thuc - Znews , expert Nguyen Tuan Phong - a former Vietnamese player - commented that U23 Vietnam has revealed weaknesses that can be exploited by the home team.

Accordingly, in attack, the strikers have not done well in finishing, making the most of scoring opportunities. In the defense system, some positions are still negligent in preventing second balls from coming out of the penalty area.

“We have only met opponents that are not highly rated. Therefore, the gaps need to be improved soon when facing quality opponents like U23 Indonesia, and they also have the home field advantage,” said Mr. Phong.

Expert Nguyen Tuan Phong was the early football coach of many current U23 Vietnam players such as Pham Ly Duc, Nguyen Xuan Bac, Vo Anh Quan, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Nguyen Hieu Minh. With the perspective of someone who has followed this generation of players from the beginning, Mr. Phong commented that U23 Vietnam has the support that most national teams need.

“This U23 generation has a technically skilled midfield, so they can completely control the ball well. Almost every midfielder has good individual skills and can always create breakthroughs, such as Van Khang, Van Truong, Quoc Viet, Viktor Le, Xuan Bac, Anh Quan or Phi Hoang. Another plus point is that this generation of players has played together a lot since the U17 Vietnam team under coach Philippe Troussier,” he commented.

Under coach Kim Sang-sik, U23 Vietnam has shown stability in playing style, fighting spirit and good adaptability to different opponents. After 4 consecutive wins, the whole team is in good spirits, aiming to become the first team to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship three times.

On the other side of the front line, U23 Indonesia received the support of 80,000 home fans. However, with careful preparation and a relaxed spirit, the Vietnamese players believe they can overcome the pressure from the Bung Karno stadium stands.
