Many people exercise
The person who helped introduce yoga to many sports enthusiasts in Duc Lap commune is teacher Le Thi Anh - a physical education teacher at Chu Van An Secondary School in Duc Lap commune.
Born in 1981, after graduating from teacher training college, Ms. Anh began teaching in Duc Lap commune. As a physical education teacher, in addition to her teaching duties at school, she also ran an aerobics and sports dance studio at her own facility. In 2014, upon discovering yoga, Ms. Anh took a yoga instructor training course and became the first person to open a yoga studio in Duc Lap commune.
Until then, yoga was still relatively unknown to the local community. Her initial yoga classes only had a few acquaintances attending. But word spread, and the class grew. When the number of students increased, she had to invite an Indian yoga instructor to teach alongside her. She said that at one point, her studio had nearly a hundred people practicing in multiple sessions daily.
To date, yoga has flourished in Duc Lap and the surrounding areas. In Duc Lap commune, along with Ms. Anh's Yoga Club, there are about 5 other clubs and practice locations with several hundred people practicing daily. Many of the instructors at these locations were once students taught by Ms. Anh.
"The good news is that the lives of the people here are getting better and better, the economy is improving, thanks to the high prices of coffee and agricultural products in recent years. More and more people in the commune are paying more attention to maintaining and improving their health, and participating in physical exercise and sports," teacher Anh said.
According to Ms. Anh, Duc Lap now offers many sports for residents to choose from, and yoga remains a popular choice. "Not only middle-aged people but also young people," Ms. Anh happily shared.

Yoga in depth
One of the most popular yoga studios in Bac Gia Nghia ward is the Leafs Yoga Ayurveda Club, run by instructor Tran Tan Son. Born in 1983, after studying Construction Engineering at Da Nang University, instructor Tran Tan Son pursued yoga and became an instructor with two large studios teaching yoga in Da Nang City.
In 2019, because he had relatives working in Gia Nghia, Mr. Son moved to live in Bac Gia Nghia ward. There, he opened and maintained the Leafs Yoga Ayurveda Club - a large center for teaching yoga with a very large number of students practicing daily.
At his yoga club, for many years, Mr. Son has invited Indian instructors to teach classes in person. He has also traveled to India many times – the birthplace of yoga – to collaborate with major yoga centers there.
For a long time, his club has also been training instructors to teach and provide therapy using yoga methods. Many students who trained at the club later became instructors, opening training centers around Gia Nghia wards and developing this discipline in neighboring communes.
He is pleased to see that he has made a certain contribution to the development of yoga in Gia Nghia. However, according to Mr. Son, the yoga movement has slowed down a bit recently compared to previous years. Although there are new sports that attract more practitioners, Mr. Son believes that yoga has now established a solid and effective position in improving the health of practitioners in the region, so many people still practice yoga.
"Most young people would likely choose lively, energetic sports that suit their age group. Yoga, on the other hand, is aimed at practitioners aged 30 and above. Those who have practiced yoga still cherish and continue to follow this sport, pursuing it in greater depth and focusing on the many valuable aspects that yoga offers," Mr. Son explained.
