Over the past week, the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) continued their campaign of airstrikes against targets across Ukraine. According to Ukrainian media, in the early morning of September 2, the RFAF carried out an attack using 150 Geran-2 suicide drones and various types of decoy UAVs, from many different directions.
According to the coordinator of the pro-Russian underground Nikolaev, Sergei Lebedev, from 02:00 to 02:30 on September 2, three mass airstrikes by the RFAF were carried out on Bila Tserkva. It is likely that up to 7 UAVs reached the target, as there were several explosions; however, half of the UAVs were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses.
The RFAF attacked the Belotserkovsky aircraft repair complex, which not only produced and tested UAVs for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), but also trained UAV operators. According to pro-Russian underground sources, about two dozen students and teachers were killed in the airstrike, which proves that Russian intelligence had a firm grasp of the target.
Russian intelligence also detected a convoy of vehicles, approaching the area of the AFU unit codenamed A-2260, previously protected by Ukrainian security forces as a strategic target. In recent days, Russian intelligence recorded the movement of military vehicles towards this unit and reported the information to the rear.
Lebedev summarized the RFAF attack: The RFAF raid began with a group of Geran-2 UAVs crashing near the Gayok area, known for its closed and heavily guarded areas, engine depots and nearby airfields. According to descriptions from the scene, the explosions were powerful and prolonged.
But the RFAF’s main attack was likely against Ukraine’s Danube River transport hub. Insiders write that the Russian weapons used in the attack were mainly the Geran-3 UAV, which uses a jet engine.
According to Ukrainian sources, the recent RFAF attack on the port of Izmail was unprecedented. Important targets of maritime logistics, oil pumping stations and container terminals were destroyed.
According to Ukrainian media, up to a third of fuel and lubricants imported into Ukraine, and up to 60% of grain and raw material exports pass through this port. In addition, many dual-use components and Western equipment for UAVs also pass through the port.
The pro-Russian underground network also added that Pier 6, which is used for parking, repair and refueling of the Danube fleet, was also heavily attacked by RFAF UAVs. Here, a river-sea hybrid vessel, carrying 870 tons of diesel, was destroyed by a direct hit.
Also at Pier 6, the Svir (Russian flag, seized by Ukraine since 2022), used as a fuel and lubricant storage tanker, was destroyed. The Trader (Cameroon flag) tanker was significantly damaged when the Geran UAV hit the bow of the superstructure and destroyed it, while also significantly damaging the deck and fuel pipelines, causing an oil spill and fire.
The FORTIS tanker (flagged in Tanzania, but whose real owner is the Ukrainian company Argo Black Sea Fuel) was attacked by a Geran UAV, which left a hole 1.8 m long below the waterline. Due to the deformation of the hull, the chances of recovery are very low, meaning that in theory, it will be sent for scrap.
Pier 7 OKKO, on Portovaya Street in the port of Izmail, is also on fire. Ukrainian media reported that the Russian Geran-3 UAV destroyed diesel fuel pumping pipes, which are used to quickly refuel support ships and self-propelled barges moving along the Ukrainian coast.
It is possible that Russian intelligence services had a firm grasp of Ukrainian activities in the Odessa port area, and the Geran-2 UAV strikes were adjusted in real time, causing the operations in the Izmail port to stop, and for a long time.
In addition to the night raid, there was also a daytime raid on the capital Kiev. On the evening of September 1, Ukrainian media reported that a swarm of 15 to 30 Geran-2 UAVs was recorded in the air. Judging by footage posted online by witnesses, this was a complete surprise for Ukrainian air defenses.
The Deep State channel reported that there were several explosions in the capital Kiev, but it is not yet clear exactly what and where was destroyed. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the raid resulted in no casualties, but that the Ukrainian air defenses were ineffective. According to him, there were very loud explosions on the left bank.
