According to Romanian authorities, the drone crashed into the roof of a 10-story apartment building in Galati, causing an explosion that injured two people.
The Romanian government , a member of NATO and the European Union (EU), confirmed that the incident was part of an overnight Russian attack on Ukraine.
According to General Gheorghe Maxim, Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces, they "analyzed all available data to determine the course of events, and the results showed there was no chance of shooting it down."

According to Romanian officials, this is the first time in the conflict that a drone has struck a densely populated residential area on Romanian territory, causing casualties. The incident in Romania is likely to increase tensions along NATO's eastern flank, at a time when Ukraine's allies are concerned that Russia's war with its neighbor will spill over the border.

Following the incident, on the same day, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte affirmed that the alliance was ready to defend every inch of territory of its member states.
In a social media post, Mr. Rutte said he had spoken by phone with Romanian President Nicolás Dan and offered his condolences to those injured in the incident.
He emphasized: "Russia's actions pose a threat to NATO countries. Last night once again showed that the consequences of war are not limited to their borders."
NATO leaders also pledged that the alliance would continue to enhance its readiness to deter and defend against all threats, including drones, and called for an end to the war and Russia's disregard for civilian safety.
On the same day, NATO's High Command for Operational Assistance (SHAPE) also released information about a telephone conversation between the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, and the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Armed Forces, General Gheorghiță Vlad. The two leaders agreed to maintain particularly close contact while the investigation continues and to consider defensive measures.
