Ho Chi Minh City currently has over 2,400 buses operating on 180 routes throughout the city. Nearly 44% of these vehicles still use diesel fuel, while the remainder operate on electricity and other green energy sources. In response to the need to reduce emissions and improve the quality of public transportation, Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating its transition to electric buses.

Introducing electric buses not only contributes to reducing emissions and noise in urban areas but also significantly improves the quality of public passenger transport services. Compared to previous diesel-powered vehicles, electric buses are considered to have many advantages such as quieter operation, reduced fuel odor, no smoke or dust emissions, and a more comfortable experience for passengers during their journey.
Furthermore, the transition to public transportation is also oriented towards the development of smart cities and seamless integration with future metro and mass public transport systems. This is considered a crucial foundation for improving the efficiency of public transport, reducing urban traffic congestion, and gradually changing people's habits of using private vehicles.

The transformation of public transportation is also aligned with the process of developing smart cities.
According to the roadmap, in addition to the goal of converting all subsidized bus routes to electric buses by 2027, Ho Chi Minh City also aims to convert its entire bus system to use electricity or green energy by 2030.
