On May 28, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) announced that a total of 137 Ebola cases had been confirmed in the two African countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

According to the Africa CDC, as of May 27, the Democratic Republic of Congo had recorded 129 cases of Ebola, including 18 deaths. In addition, there were 1,077 suspected cases and 246 deaths suspected to be related to Ebola that were under investigation.
In neighboring Uganda, health authorities confirmed eight cases, including one death.
Given the complex and evolving pandemic situation, Uganda announced on May 27th the temporary closure of its border with Congo and the implementation of enhanced disease prevention and control measures.

Other countries, including Rwanda and Ethiopia, have also activated cross-border surveillance measures and increased health checks at transit areas to limit the risk of spread.
In Europe, Austrian authorities are monitoring a suspected case linked to the outbreak. The Upper Austria State Health Department announced on May 27th that a woman who returned from Uganda on May 25th has been isolated and treated in hospital after exhibiting symptoms consistent with Ebola virus infection.
Although initial blood tests showed no signs of the virus, Austrian officials emphasized the need for a second confirmatory test before the possibility of infection could be completely ruled out.
