Son La Provincial People's Committee worked with a delegation of Korean experts on the pre-feasibility study of the REDD+ project.
REDD+ is a global framework developed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to encourage developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, while conserving and enhancing forest carbon stocks through sustainable forest management.
The working program focuses on understanding the forest protection and development strategy of Son La province. Assessing the experience of implementing REDD+ projects. Identifying the context and priority issues related to the main drivers of deforestation and forest degradation; the situation of law enforcement on preventing and combating illegal logging; updating the situation of payment for forest environmental services. The pre-feasibility study of the REDD+ project in Son La is an important basis for developing orientations and practical solutions, aiming at the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting and developing forests sustainably in the coming period.
Speaking at the meeting, comrade Nguyen Thanh Cong highly appreciated the efforts of the working group in implementing the project. He requested that the provincial departments and branches closely coordinate with the working group to continue researching and evaluating the feasibility of the project in detail; submit to the Provincial People's Committee to clarify the evaluation procedures, develop implementation steps and plans for the project implementation in the coming time.
