President Laporta is bribing Barcelona to play on the field as desired |
UEFA reportedly told Catalunya Radio's Tot Costa programme that, as per their request, Barcelona will play their first Champions League "league phase" away from home, in order to give Barca more time to prepare in case they return to the Camp Nou.
UEFA’s decision is seen as favorable, as Barca’s first home game will be in the second leg, on September 30 or October 1. Thanks to that, the club does not have to rush to lay new grass between two events: the Post Malone concert on September 12 and the European match on September 16, 17 or 18.
Meanwhile, according to information from the Spanish press, Barca is still considering alternative options. The Montilivi (Girona) and Mestalla (Valencia) stadiums are being considered for the La Liga round 4 match against Valencia on September 13 or 14. The next home match is round 5 against Getafe (September 20 or 21), when Barca is likely to have time to complete the laying of new grass.
While the club is rushing to keep alive the small hope of returning home to face Valencia, Barca still has to complete the procedure to request a Certificate of Completion to submit to the City Council - the competent authority to issue the first License to Use. On the morning of August 21, UEFA sent a delegation to inspect the construction progress at Camp Nou.
Since the mid-June inspection, there has been significant progress. UEFA has also assessed that Barca can meet the requirements for security, television and press facilities. However, if Barca start the Champions League at Montjuic, they will have to play there until the end of January. UEFA has generally been satisfied with the experience at the Olympic Stadium over the past two seasons.
