Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have launched a counteroffensive operation. Currently, the first stage of the AFU counteroffensive is underway.
“The enemy is trying to suppress the control of the Northern Group of Troops. There have been high-precision strikes with weapons supplied by the West on the Russian border area,” correspondent Alexander Kots said.

According to this war correspondent, the Ukrainian army has attacked the Belgorod area twice with the US HIMARS rocket artillery system. “Each attack used two types of rockets, a combination of fragmentation warheads and cluster munitions. The short-term prediction is that the number of casualties will increase more than initially expected,” correspondent Alexander Kots added. Notably, the Russian air defense system has not been able to suppress and prevent the attacks.
AFU begins using Western weapons to attack Russia
Military reporter Yevgeny Poddubny reported on June 1 that the Ukrainian army has begun using Western-made and aided weapons to attack Russian territory. Specifically, Russian air defense systems have destroyed more than 10 missiles in the airspace of the Belgorod region.
Reporter Yevgeny Poddubny emphasized that the use of this weapon in combat requires the involvement and support of Western military experts.
“We can rule out the “independent activities” of the AFU. The attacks were coordinated with “Western specialists,” the Russian military correspondent said.
“The air defenses destroyed the shells, but the fact of the attack shows that Washington decided to escalate the conflict. This is NATO’s direct involvement in hostilities against our country,” reporter Evgeniy Poddubny stressed.
Russia pushes forward with attack in Kharkov direction
The head of the Kharkov regional military administration, Oleg Sinegubov, said that the Russian Armed Forces are preparing to attack in the Zolochov direction. Accordingly, the concentration of Russian forces is a “worrying” concern. Local authorities are preparing plans to evacuate civilians in settlements near the border with Russia.
Meanwhile, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov pointed out the AFU’s retreat in key areas of the Kharkiv region. Over the past few weeks, the Ukrainian army has retreated 8-9 km. The Russian Defense Minister also added that about 880 km2 of territory will come under Russian control in 2024.
“Russian combat groups are pushing the enemy out of their positions. Progress is being made in all tactical directions,” Andrey Belousov said.
Meanwhile, the former military chief of the Lugansk region, Andrey Marochko, said that the AFU was suffering heavy losses in the Kharkov direction due to low discipline and combat readiness. “The losses were caused by low discipline in the troops, mental disorders and frequent use of alcohol, drugs and psychotropic drugs by soldiers,” he added.

Fierce fighting continues north of Lyptsi and in Volchansk
In connection with the military situation, the Russian army is carrying out new all-out attacks on important infrastructure systems in the Lvov and Vinnytsia regions. As a result of the air strikes, the Burshtyn and Dnipro power plants were destroyed. This led to widespread power outages in many regions of Ukraine.
On the Slobozhansky (Kharkov) front, fierce fighting continues north of the town of Lyptsi and in Volchansk. The AFU is pouring units into the battlefield in the face of superior firepower of the Russian Army. The intensity of fire from glide bombs and thermobaric weapons used by Russia could lead to heavy casualties for the AFU counterattacking, especially in Volchansk.
In the Bakhmut direction, Russian troops continued to attack the eastern suburbs of Chasov Yar and expanded the controlled area south of Krasne.
Meanwhile, on the Avdeevka front, Russian troops are advancing into the Solovyovo, Semenovka and Umansky areas. Russia's goal is to cut off the AFU's rear supply lines in order to isolate the defense units at the front.
On the Donetsk front, fighting continues around the Krasnogorivka town administration building. Ukraine is launching a counter-offensive as Russian assault units entered the town on June 1.
In the Zaporozhye direction, after softening the battlefield with firepower, Russian troops are now in full control of the villages of Urozhayne and Staromaiorskoye. In addition, there have been signs of Russia launching an offensive north of Nesteryanki since Ukraine launched a major counteroffensive in 2023.
Ukraine's elite reserve forces strike first
In the heat of the Kharkov front, Ukrainian reserve units from all fronts were poured here. However, the transport routes were monitored by the Russian army and they launched a preemptive strike as soon as they appeared.
To maintain the image of victory, the AFU mobilized its most powerful and best-equipped units. However, the Russian army accomplished a rather simple tactic: playing on the psychology of the Ukrainian leadership, not wanting to lose control of more territories, and gradually establishing a "buffer zone" to attract and trap a number of Ukraine's most elite units in Kharkov. This would open up opportunities for other fronts to gain more victories.
Russia’s Northern Task Force is exerting pressure along the entire border with Ukraine. Suicide UAVs are becoming a dangerous battlefield weapon for both Russia and Ukraine, due to their length and depth of the battlefield, making them easy to manufacture and deploy.
