Accordingly, Kiev has sent a request to New Zealand, the country in charge of receiving requests to join this bloc.
"Japan, as a CPTPP member, must carefully assess whether Ukraine fully meets the agreement's high level of market access and rules," Goto said at a regular press conference.
In April 2023, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka mentioned plans for Kiev to soon make a decision on its application to join the CPTPP.
After submitting the application, Ukraine will likely receive notification from members to initiate negotiations.
CPTPP was established in 2018, currently consisting of 11 members: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam.
In March 2023, the UK announced the end of negotiations to join the agreement with 11 member states after 21 months.
Nikkei Asia said that member countries and the UK are expected to sign an accession agreement at a ministerial meeting this year, making London the 12th country to join the CPTPP.
