Mr. Tran Van Tinh's family, residing in Tan Cuong residential area, Yen Dung ward, owns 2.3 hectares of aquaculture ponds. In previous years, his family regularly raised tilapia in combination with grass carp, common carp, silver carp, and silver catfish. In 2025, with the support and assistance of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, his family participated in a model applying digital technology to intensive farming of grass carp combined with tilapia and common carp, with grass carp accounting for 60-70% of the fish species.
By participating in the model, Mr. Tinh received training and technology transfer in intensive fish farming; he also received partial support for the cost of purchasing fish fry, feed, chemicals, biological products, water aerators, feeders, and a smart device to control the water aerator and feeder systems.

During the fish farming period, technical staff from the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center regularly inspect and guide the care and management of the pond environment. The Center also advises participating households not to use equipment, chemicals, or tools that could harm the fish.
Mixed fish feed, disease prevention medications, and biological products are purchased from reputable, licensed manufacturers and are on the list of permitted products. In addition to mixed feed, the farmer also uses homemade feeds such as elephant grass, corn, and sprouted rice, ensuring quality standards. As a result, the fish grow and develop well.
Mr. Tinh said: Thanks to smart control devices in fish farming, the cost of care and management has been significantly reduced. Grass carp are easy to raise, do not require much nutrition, have low production costs, but have high and stable selling prices; the price of first-grade commercial grass carp ranges from 50,000-65,000 VND/kg at the pond and is easy to sell.
After 8 months of raising, the fish weighed 2.1 kg/each, an increase of 1.8-1.9 kg compared to the start of farming. The yield of the ponds using this model reached approximately 28.5 tons/ha, with total revenue reaching nearly 940 million VND and profit of nearly 180 million VND/ha, 20% higher than the remaining pond area of the family.
According to Mr. Ngo Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Agricultural Extension Center (Department of Agriculture and Environment), the entire province currently has 16,200 hectares of water surface exploited for fish farming. The fish farming structure in ponds usually combines many types of fish according to the principle of multi-layered polyculture to utilize food resources and maximize pond space. Depending on the pond conditions and the capacity and level of investment of each household, a suitable fish farming structure can be arranged, with grass carp currently accounting for about 50% of the fish farming structure in ponds.
The application of digital technology to intensive farming of grass carp combined with tilapia and common carp reduces labor, limits the use of antibiotics and chemicals, contributes to minimizing environmental pollution, and increases the economic value of aquaculture.
