Building on previous findings, a research team from the University of Pennsylvania (USA) conducted a meta-analysis on the impact of omega-3 supplementation on aggressive behavior. In total, they reviewed 29 trials involving 3,918 participants.
These trials were conducted between 1996 and 2024, lasting an average of 16 weeks.
Consuming omega-3 fish oil reduces aggressive behavior by 28%.
The results showed that consuming omega-3 fish oil reduced aggressive behavior by up to 28%. Notably, the results indicated a reduction in both forms of aggressive behavior: reactive (occurring when provoked) and proactive (pre-planned behavior).
Professor Adrian Raine, from the University of Pennsylvania, and other researchers suggest that omega-3s may help regulate behavior by reducing inflammation and maintaining important neurological processes.
Furthermore, numerous other studies have shown that omega-3s from fish oil help reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious cardiovascular diseases. This demonstrates the many benefits of this type of fatty acid, according to Science Alert.
