Village councilor in Ukraine throws grenade during meeting, 26 injured

CBS News reported that a Ukrainian village councilor threw a grenade at a meeting on the morning of December 15 at the village council headquarters in Keretsky (Transcarpathian region, western Ukraine), injuring 26 people.

Video posted by police on social media shows a man dressed in black entering a heated council meeting. He then pulls three grenades from his pocket, removes the safety pins and drops them on the floor, causing an explosion.

"Twenty-six people were injured, six of whom are in critical condition. The man who threw the grenade was taken to hospital in critical condition and is being resuscitated by doctors," police said in a statement.

The Ukrainian secret service (SBU) has opened a terrorism investigation. Police have also opened an investigation into the illegal use of weapons.

Authorities have not named the suspect, but the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper reported that the man who threw the grenade was identified as Serhiy Batryn.
