On June 16, the first batch of seedless lychees from Vietnam was introduced to the UK market, becoming the fourth Vietnamese specialty fruit, after Tan Lac red grapefruit, Dien Yen Thuy grapefruit and Cao Phong oranges ( Hoa Binh ), to be officially exported to this demanding market in 2023.

The above batch of seedless lychees was grown by Ho Guom-Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited in Ngoc Lac (Thanh Hoa) and imported to the UK by TT Meridian Company.
This batch of seedless lychees was harvested and packaged in Ngoc Lac district on the evening of June 14; it was kept cold for 36-48 hours. After that, the shipment completed quarantine procedures at Noi Bai airport and was transported on a direct flight from Hanoi to London of Vietnam Airlines . On the afternoon of June 15, the lychees arrived in London (local time), then cleared customs and arrived at the warehouse of TT Meridian Company on the morning of June 16.
TT Meridian Company is a business specializing in distributing lychees and Vietnamese agricultural products in the UK, in which the retail price of seedless lychees is about 16-18 pounds/kg (about 480,000-540,000 VND) and is 3-4 pounds higher than regular lychees.
Although the selling price is quite high, the Company still decided to test importing this specialty fruit to assess market demand after the quality test results showed that the product has the characteristic sweet taste of lychee, juicy, crispy flesh and especially the lychee has no seeds, suitable for British and European consumers.
If the quality and price of Vietnamese seedless lychees are well received by the UK market, TT Meridian Company will import about 1 ton of fruit per week in June and July. Previously, in early May 2023, TT Meridian Company imported a batch of Ri6 durian from Vietnam to the UK market.
According to the Ngoc Lac District Portal (Thanh Hoa Province), the Ho Guom seedless litchi research project developed by the Agricultural Genetics Institute in collaboration with Ho Guom - Song Am CNC Agriculture Company Limited has been accepted by the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) for registration for protection and implementation in Ngoc Lac District.
Since 2019, nearly 30 hectares of seedless lychee have been imported from Japan by the People's Committee of Ngoc Lac district in coordination with Ho Guom - Song Am Company, and this is the first area to grow this specialty fruit tree outside of Japan.
After nearly 3 years, 2023 is the first year Ngoc Lac seedless lychee is harvested with an estimated yield of more than 20 tons. The quality of seedless lychee is plump, the flesh is clear white, crispy, slightly sweet and refreshing.
The results of seedless litchi testing all achieved organic certification, VietGap, growing area codes... meeting export standards to markets in Japan, Canada, Europe...
