Etiquette in the Digital Age

With Industry 4.0 technology spreading everywhere, from cities to rural areas, even to remote villages in mountainous regions, people need to learn how to behave in a civilized and cultured way in the digital age. Only by building a culture suitable for the digital age can people keep pace with modern, civilized life and spread positive values to the community.

Representatives from various levels and functional departments of the province guided the people of Vo Nhai commune on how to livestream and behave courteously when selling goods online.

Provincial authorities have focused on guiding people on how to livestream and behave courteously when selling goods online.

Behave respectfully on social media.

According to our survey, most people in Thai Nguyen have personal accounts on social media (Facebook, Zalo). Many elderly people are also assisted by their children and grandchildren in setting up social media accounts for easier communication and care. The online activities of Thai Nguyen residents are generally quite vibrant. Culturally appropriate and civilized behavior on social media platforms is also a growing requirement.

Ms. Le Thi Duyen, a teacher currently residing in Group 90, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, shared: "When someone posts their activities on their personal page (Zalo, Facebook), many people behave uncivilly, commenting with insulting words towards the account owner. Some even use venomous language towards photos reflecting children's recreational activities… This reality worries us greatly, especially with young people like students, who often leave insensitive comments on their friends' posts without thinking carefully, leading to misunderstandings, conflicts, and potentially undesirable consequences."

Regarding uncivilized and uncultured behavior, and even violations of the law, by citizens participating in social media, recently (in less than 10 days), the Provincial Police investigated and imposed administrative penalties on 5 cases for sharing, spreading, and commenting on false information on social media. These included individuals over 40 years old and even students. In response to these incidents, authorities have repeatedly warned social media users to be cautious and verify the accuracy of information before posting, sharing, or commenting to avoid violating the law.

Building a queuing culture

As technology-based applications are integrated into work and become ubiquitous in daily life, people in Thai Nguyen are forced to get used to queuing when going to government offices to carry out administrative procedures.

Accordingly, everyone is required to register by obtaining a number and queuing at administrative procedure centers at the commune and provincial levels. Even registering for medical examinations and treatment at public health facilities requires citizens to strictly adhere to the procedures. Similarly, when paying at supermarkets and convenience stores, each person must queue to wait for their turn...

However, not all citizens are aware of this issue. Many people, driven by selfishness, are willing to push and shove to get a number or be paid first. This pushing and shoving also hinders the work of officials, who, instead of processing applications sequentially, have to deal with the congestion and chaos of the long queues.

Ms. Vu Thanh Hoa, from Group 20, Quan Trieu Ward, said: "Every time I see people pushing and shoving to get the fourth number first or to grab a spot in front of others, I feel very sad. As society develops, each of us needs to raise our awareness and responsibility, building a positive and cultured lifestyle that is in line with the trends of the times."

Adapt to change

Improving individuals in terms of character, ethics, and lifestyle, and meeting the demands of the 4.0 revolution, are key elements in building a human culture in the digital age. This involves each individual consciously preserving and promoting the nation's fine traditional cultural values while also being able to adapt to the rapid changes in technology.

To achieve this goal, we need to start with the educational environment, requiring schools to innovate their teaching methods and equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills, especially in using information technology, working, and being creative.

Mr. Ha Quang Dinh, Principal of Phu Luong High School, said: "For the past five years, the school has paid special attention to equipping students with information technology skills. As a result, most of the school's students are quite proficient in using software to support their studies, enhance their knowledge, and behave in a cultured manner when participating in social activities."

Building culturally refined individuals in the digital age also means cultivating people who are patriotic, compassionate, loyal, honest, united, and responsible to society and the community, behaving culturally in the digital environment. Along with this, the community and society must consciously build a healthy cultural environment by promoting the roles of families and schools… to prevent negative impacts from the digital environment and protect children and young people.
