Located less than 3km from Ban Gioc Waterfall, Khuoi Ky village (Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province), over 400 years old, still retains its unique features and distinctive culture. Combined with the lifestyle of the local people and the homestay model, this ancient stone village is increasingly attracting many domestic and international tourists.

Currently, Khuoi Ky village has 14 households, all of whom are Tay ethnic people living in ancient stone stilt houses covering an area of ​​about 1 hectare. The village is nestled against a rocky mountain, surrounded by forests, with the Khuoi Ky stream in front, hence its name.

Khuoi Ky was formed between 1594 and 1677 when the Mac dynasty built fortifications in Cao Bang to protect the country; stilt houses were erected there like impregnable fortresses.

Right from the entrance to the village, visitors can clearly feel the ancient and tranquil atmosphere of Khuoi Ky thanks to the wooden bridge. The road leading into the village is paved with cobblestones, and the fences separating the houses are also meticulously constructed of stone.

Khuoi Ky village possesses a unique and striking beauty due to its houses built of stone with yin-yang tiled roofs. In the Tay people's consciousness, rocky mountains represent deities, and therefore, houses made of stone are believed to possess the power to protect and safeguard the villagers.

An ancient stone house here consists of two floors, approximately 5-7 meters high. The first floor mainly has a wooden frame supporting columns on a solid stone foundation.

Some other apartments were built entirely of stone on both floors, with many large windows and doorways all around.

The village is surrounded by sturdy stone fences, 30-40cm thick.

In 2008, Khuoi Ky was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a "Typical Traditional Cultural Village of an Ethnic Minority Community". Since then, the ancient village has received investment for construction and development into a Tay ethnic cultural tourism village.

Since 2016, households in Khuoi Ky village have begun to adapt, adopting homestay tourism services to develop community tourism, attracting many domestic and international tourists, and creating livelihoods and income for ethnic minority households. The Khuoi Ky Tay ethnic tourism village project has become a highlight of community tourism development in Cao Bang province.

The number of tourists visiting Khuoi Ky village is increasing, especially during the end and beginning of the year. Here, visitors can enjoy the majestic mountain scenery, immerse themselves in the fresh, cool air, and admire the peaceful atmosphere of the ancient village.
