The Gung Ré landfill, covering 2 hectares (approximately 20,000 m2) in Gung Ré commune, Di Linh district, is on fire, causing smoke and dust to blanket a large rural area. Hundreds of households are suffering from the foul smell and environmental pollution.
On March 30th, representatives from the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Public Works in Di Linh District, Lam Dong Province, stated that the unit is coordinating with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the fire at the Gung Ré landfill. In addition, measures to control and prevent the fire from spreading are being urgently implemented.
A column of smoke tens of meters high rose from the fire at the Gung Ré landfill.
According to reporters, the 2-hectare Gung Ré landfill is engulfed in flames, with columns of smoke rising dozens of meters high and carried by the wind in all directions. This is causing severe environmental damage to the surrounding area, resulting in foul odors and pollution.
According to a local resident, the Gung Ré landfill started burning on the afternoon of March 29th from a small fire and is now spreading. Furthermore, the fire from the landfill is tending to spread to the pine forest and coffee plantations of the surrounding residents.
Mr. NQT, a resident of Gung Ré commune, said: "The Gung Ré landfill fire has disrupted the lives of our people. The stench and thick smoke emanating from the fire have greatly affected the living environment of hundreds of households in the surrounding area, especially in the two villages of Hàng Hải and Hàng Lang (Gung Ré commune)."
According to a representative from the Di Linh District Public Works Investment and Construction Project Management Board, the Gung Ré landfill has become overloaded and has stopped accepting household waste since March 1, 2025. Currently, household waste in the district is collected and transported to the Di Linh Waste Treatment Plant in Lien Dam commune.
The Gung Ré landfill became overloaded and stopped accepting waste from March 1, 2025.
