The price of many flights this year is only 700,000-1.2 million VND, a decrease of 10-40% compared to last year - the lowest in the past 6 years.
If in the summer peak of previous years, many famous tourist routes were "sold out", this year, even if you buy tickets close to the date, the prices are still very low. Some flights are even cheaper than in April, May, and June.
Surveys show that popular summer travel routes such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Nang on Vietnam Airlines , Vietjet, Pacific Airlines, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines still have a large number of tickets with prices 10-40% lower than the same period last year. This level, according to airlines and some agents, is the lowest in the past 6 years.
For the Hanoi - Phu Quoc route in July, Vietnam Airlines tickets cost from only 1.1 million VND one way or more (including taxes and fees). If you travel in August, the price is even lower, from only 800,000 VND one way. In the same period of previous years, the price fluctuated from 1.6 to 3.5 million VND for one leg. Even early-bird promotional tickets, including taxes and fees, are not lower than 1.5 million VND.
Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc these days also have tickets priced at 50,000 VND (excluding taxes and fees) for travel in July and August. If taxes and fees are added, the price is only about 638,000 VND to 1 million VND with many different flight times. On the two weekends, the price is only 200,000-400,000 VND higher depending on the time.

For routes from Hanoi/HCMC to tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hue, Da Lat..., the price is only around 1-1.2 million VND one way, equivalent to a reduction of about 10-40% compared to booking a month in advance or the same period.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu - an airline ticket agent in Cau Giay (Hanoi) - assessed that from 2018 until now, "there has never been a price as low as this time".
According to her, in previous years, the summer peak price increased every day because of the large number of customers. There were times when customers booked the day before but if they did not have time to reserve a seat, the next day she had to pay an additional few hundred thousand VND per ticket for each leg for the customer. However, this year's summer peak is the opposite, customers booked tickets from Hanoi to Phu Quoc for the departure date at the end of July for only 1.2 million VND, a 40% decrease compared to the same period in previous years and in May.
"This year's peak summer purchasing power only increased by about 5% compared to the same period last year, but compared to previous years, it decreased by 30%," said Ms. Thu.
As an agent specializing in selling group tours, Ms. Oanh - the owner of an agency in Tan Binh district admitted that this year, due to inflation and difficult business operations, small and medium-sized enterprises have cut or reduced vacation expenses. Others still organize vacations but choose short-distance trips that are easier to travel by car instead of plane. Therefore, the demand for air tickets during the peak summer season this year is gloomy compared to previous years.

Speaking to VnExpress , airlines also said that the reason for the drop in ticket prices this year is because of low purchasing power. In addition to balancing reasonable levels, on many routes, airlines have proactively promoted deeply to stimulate demand, so prices have dropped to the lowest level in the past 6 years. In addition, the number of international flights this year at airlines has increased compared to last year while international demand for the summer so far has only reached 70%. Instead of keeping planes "on hold", airlines have increased domestic flights. When many summer flights are increased, supply exceeds demand, pushing ticket prices down.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vasco) said that "there has never been a year when purchasing power has been this low". The domestic aviation market in the first 6 months of this year recorded a growth rate of 7% compared to the same period in 2019. Although it is the peak summer season, ticket purchasing power only increased by about 10-15% compared to previous months. Meanwhile, international routes only reached 80% compared to the same period.
This summer, the airline will supply more than 7.3 million seats to the market, a slight increase compared to the same period last year. From now until the end of July, the airline expects the market to be more vibrant.
Also expecting the tourism market to be vibrant, travel companies assessed that airfares are quite "soft". Therefore, they have also quickly adjusted tour prices down 20-30% compared to the same period. In many places, tour prices to famous areas are reduced by up to 50%.
In addition to summer discounts, airlines are also proactively launching promotional tickets, with discounts of 15% to 30% for the fall to stimulate demand.
