Why do community agricultural extension groups always receive attention and support?

Community agricultural extension groups have received attention and support from all levels and sectors and the active participation of the entire political system from the central to local levels as well as businesses, cooperatives and farmers.

On the morning of November 6, in Can Tho City, the National Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City to organize a discussion with the theme "Community agricultural extension communication".

Here, Mr. Do Da Giang from the International Cooperation and Consulting Department (National Agricultural Extension Center) said that after 2 years of implementing the pilot project "Improving the effectiveness of agricultural extension activities on the basis of perfecting the community agricultural extension team model" in the period of 2022-2024 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, up to now, nationwide, 57 provinces and cities have established 5,167 community agricultural extension teams with 47,293 participating members.

Of which, the pilot project has 26 community agricultural extension groups with 156 members, outside the project there are 5,141 community agricultural extension groups with 47,137 members.

All members participating in the community agricultural extension team are mainly commune leaders, commune civil servants, representatives of local associations and organizations (farmers' association, youth union, women's union, veterans' union, cooperatives, enterprises...), cooperative representatives, and good farmers and businessmen.

According to Mr. Giang, the activities of community agricultural extension groups have received attention and support from all levels and sectors and the very active participation of the entire political system from the central to local levels as well as businesses, cooperatives and farmers.

"Community agricultural extension groups have done a good job of consulting on cooperative economic development and production linkage, contributing to changing agricultural production thinking, intellectualizing farmers, and increasing digital transformation, especially in raw material areas," said Mr. Giang.

Specifically, recently, community agricultural extension groups in Kien Giang have linked up with Loc Troi Group Joint Stock Company, helping many agricultural cooperatives consume rice. At the same time, supporting cooperatives and cooperative groups to exchange with Dai Duong Xanh Company, Cuu Long Seed Joint Stock Company, Hai Thu Rice Seed Trading - Service - Production Company Limited to link up to consume rice varieties such as Jasmine 85, OM18, Dai Thom 8,...

Community agricultural extension groups in Long An have coordinated with relevant units to organize many training courses, transfer science and technology on care and off-season flowering on durian and green-skinned grapefruit trees; organize consultation and guidance on the establishment of 2 durian production cooperatives; cooperate with enterprises to guide the development of agricultural product area codes for cooperatives...

In particular, recently, community agricultural extension teams in the Mekong Delta region have implemented activities to serve the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice associated with green growth implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Typically, the transfer of processes, techniques, and technologies for rice cultivation to reduce emissions; guiding farmers to reorganize production according to the model of cooperatives and cooperatives. Many community agricultural extension teams have connected with businesses, built and developed production cooperatives, especially towards building sustainable raw material areas.

In the coming time, the National Agricultural Extension Center will continue to promote training activities and improve the capacity of community agricultural extension groups to become the main force of the agricultural sector in localities.

The National Agricultural Extension Center also has a direction to propose that the People's Committees of provinces and cities pay attention to issuing policies and mechanisms to support facilities and allocate funds for effective operation of community agricultural extension teams. At the same time, pilot research on using the legal status of cooperatives for the activities of community agricultural extension teams.
