(CLO) Turkey's Transport Ministry said in a statement that the engine of a Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane caught fire after landing at Antalya Airport, Turkey on Sunday.

The ministry said landing at the airport was delayed until 03:00 local time while authorities towed the plane off the runway.

All 89 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated from the Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane operated by Azimuth Airlines from Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi, the ministry said.

A video shared on social media by news website Airport Haber shows emergency services responding to the scene of the fire, with flames and smoke billowing from the plane's engine.

Videos shared by the Turkish Transport Ministry after the incident showed the plane with firefighting foam underneath while firefighters continued to spray the left engine to cool it.

Azimuth Airlines said the plane made a bad landing. Russia's Federal Aviation Administration, Rosaviatsiya, said it was investigating the incident.

Flight tracking website FlightRadar24 said the plane was seven years old. Russia has been short of planes due to Western sanctions over its conflict with Ukraine since 2022.
