Cho Chulhyeon, a South Korean biographer and documentary filmmaker, has become the first foreigner to write about the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

His story about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong (Vietnamese version), published precisely on the 100th anniversary of the General Secretary's passing, reflects the author Cho Chulhyeon's admiration and respect for Vietnam's exceptionally outstanding leader.

Using a literary style rich in imagery and emotion, and based on valuable source materials meticulously collected and researched over many years, Cho Chulhyeon objectively, truthfully, and vividly portrays the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from his youth – the years of overcoming difficulties and hardships, striving, cultivating, training, studying, and excelling in his education and various positions – to becoming the highest-ranking leader of the Party and State, always steadfast in the revolutionary ideals chosen by the Party, trusted by the people and respected by international friends.

Cho Chulhyeon believes that, "If literature is considered a living organism, then writing style is the heartbeat of its existence." In particular, witnessing the General Secretary's determination to eradicate corruption, the leader of the "anti-corruption campaign," his heart also beat faster, and his writing became vibrant and enthusiastic, like the rhythm of a eulogy.

When visiting Lai Da village, Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi – the hometown of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong – the author thought that, being the birthplace of a man who had served three consecutive terms as General Secretary, it would surely be difficult to approach. However, completely contrary to his expectations, there wasn't even a guard post in front of the General Secretary's house. The villagers comfortably answered his questions without any hesitation. All the people he met were extremely proud to be from the General Secretary's village.

The same atmosphere prevailed when the author visited Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, where the General Secretary had once studied. A teacher the author happened to meet in the schoolyard readily shared stories about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's school days.

During the writing of this book, Mr. Cho Chulhyeon received help from many people: Professor Ahn Kyong Hwan helped him proofread the manuscript, encouraged him, and gave him valuable feedback; Ms. Chang Eun-sook, President of the Korean Association in Hanoi; Mr. Koh Sang-gon, in charge of global business and members of the Korean Small and Medium Business Association; Professor Kang Seong-jin from the Department of Economics - Korea University; and Professor Kwon Won-sun from the Department of Economics - Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

Furthermore, during the translation process, the author received invaluable assistance from Mr. Ly Xuong Can, Vietnam's Tourism Ambassador to South Korea; Professor Bae Yang-soo from the Vietnamese Department, Busan University of Foreign Studies; and lecturer Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen from the Korean Department, Hanoi University. The twin sisters Puttima and Juhra, Russian translators, also helped him locate the doctoral dissertation written by the General Secretary when he studied in the former Soviet Union.

The author shared: “I met with people in Vietnam who knew about the General Secretary and focused on learning about him through them. I also read many documents about the life of the late General Secretary.”

Finally, I can confidently affirm that the General Secretary is a true scholar. A humble scholar dedicated to the people! A humane, honest, and upright scholar! A steadfast scholar who fights against injustice! A genuine scholar deeply imbued with Ho Chi Minh's moral philosophy.
