On January 7, 1972, Vietnam and India officially established diplomatic relations and were upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016.
Mahatma Gandhi and President Ho Chi Minh are great monuments to the Indian and Vietnamese people, both affectionately called "father of the nation", who led the people of the two countries in the struggle for national liberation.
In order to contribute to introducing and promoting the image of the country, people and culture of the two nations, the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the Ministry of Communications of India decided to issue the stamp set "Vietnam-India Joint Issue Stamps" consisting of 2 stamp designs.
Accordingly, Vietnam introduced Vovinam martial art and India introduced Kalarippayattu martial art. Artists from each country designed their own stamps and discussed them together to create a set of 2 stamps.

Sample 2-1: Kalaripayattu, also known simply as Kalari, is an Indian martial art that originated in present-day Kerala, a state on the southwest coast of India. Kalaripayattu is known for its long history in Indian martial arts spanning over 3,000 years. Kalaripayattu evolved into its present form in the 6th century during the long period of war between the Chera and Chola dynasties.
Kalaripayattu involves punching, kicking, throwing, using weapons and treating injuries. In this martial art, dexterity, speed and agility are the factors that determine the outcome of a fight.
Model 2-2: Introducing the martial art Vovinam, founded by master Nguyen Loc in 1936, with the desire to improve the self-defense and fighting ability of the Vietnamese people in the fight against French colonialism. Vovinam was developed based on traditional Vietnamese wrestling, combining the quintessence of other martial arts in the world, famous for its neck-locking and high-flying moves.
Through many ups and downs, today, Vovinam has gradually become one of the typical cultural features, strongly popularized nationwide and is being introduced internationally, contributing to promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam. The stamp uses a blue background to create harmony with the color of the martial arts uniform and the flexibility of the martial arts posture.
The stamp set was designed by artist Brahma Prakash (India) and artist Pham Trung Ha (Vietnam), with face values of 4,000 VND and 15,000 VND, stamp size 43 x 32 (mm), and is available on the postal network from October 16, 2023 to June 30, 2025.
Previously, Vietnam Post issued a number of stamp sets introducing the country, people and culture of India.
