On the afternoon of March 21, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Prak Sokhonn, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was pleased to learn that Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a successful meeting, contributing to further promoting the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
On the occasion of the upcoming Cambodian traditional New Year Chol Chnam Thmay, the Prime Minister conveyed the best wishes of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of Vietnam to King Norodom Sihamoni, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and senior leaders of Cambodia.

The Prime Minister congratulated Cambodia on the great achievements it has made in recent years, especially in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, controlling inflation, achieving economic growth, successfully assuming the role of ASEAN Chair 2022, and especially successfully organizing the election of the 5th term Commune/Ward Councils in June 2022.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn expressed his honor and gratitude to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to receive the delegation; respectfully conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Hun Sen and senior Cambodian leaders to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; warmly congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in socio-economic recovery, development and international integration; and affirmed that Cambodia always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the relationship of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia".
The Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also expressed his delight at the continued strengthening and development of relations between Vietnam and Cambodia in all areas.
Leaders of the two countries maintain regular contact and delegation exchanges. Two-way trade turnover in 2022 reached more than 10 billion USD, an increase of nearly 11% compared to 2021. By the end of 2022, Vietnam had 205 investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of 29.4 billion USD, ranking first in ASEAN and among the top 5 countries with the largest direct investment in Cambodia. The two sides have just coordinated to organize many meaningful activities during the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year 2022.
Reporting to the Prime Minister on the results of the talks with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son as well as the successful results of the 20th Meeting of the Joint Committee of the two countries, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn affirmed that the Minutes of the Meeting will be the basis for the ministries and branches of the two sides to continue to expand and deepen the good cooperative relationship in all fields from politics, diplomacy, security, defense, to economy, trade, investment, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchange..., bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
In order to further develop and make the bilateral relationship more effective, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that both sides focus on effectively implementing high-level agreements and joint statements between the two countries; promote cooperation, traffic connection, and economic connection between the two economies, together building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with deep, substantive and effective international integration; promote border trade, develop the economy of border areas; cooperate in preventing transnational crimes and drugs; and cooperate in the fields of green transformation and climate change.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister thanked and requested the Cambodian side to continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia to do business, live, and resolve legal paperwork issues more conveniently. He hoped that the two sides would cooperate and find appropriate solutions to speed up the demarcation and marker planting of about 16% of the remaining land border to jointly build a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developing border.
In the context of many important events taking place in Cambodia in 2023, including the election of the 7th National Assembly, the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) and the Southeast Asian Para Games (Para Games), and the 12th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit, the Prime Minister affirmed that, within its capacity, the Vietnamese Government is ready to support, share experiences and support Cambodia in successfully organizing these events.
The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums; together contributing to building a united, strong and prosperous ASEAN Community.
