Vietnam has its third female professor of Mathematics.

Ms. Ta Thi Hoai An, 51 years old, from Nghe An province, is the third woman to achieve the professorship in Mathematics in Vietnam in nearly 70 years.

On November 6th, the State Council of Professors announced the list of 588 candidates recognized as meeting the standards for professor and associate professor (excluding candidates in the fields of Security and Military ). Among them, the field of Mathematics has two individuals who met the standards for professor: Ms. Ta Thi Hoai An and Mr. Doan Thai Son, both working at the Institute of Mathematics - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Ms. Ta Thi Hoai An, 51 years old, from Nghe An province, has become the third female professor of Mathematics in Vietnam, after Professor Hoang Xuan Sinh (recognized in 1980) and Professor Le Thi Thanh Nhan (in 2015).

Vietnam's first professorship appointments took place in November 1956, 67 years ago. At that time, the field of Mathematics had two professors: Ta Quang Buu and Le Van Thiem.

Ms. Hoai An graduated from Vinh University in 1993 and defended her doctoral thesis in 2001 under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ha Huy Khoai - former Director of the Institute of Mathematics. During this period, she was a lecturer at Vinh University.

From 2001 to 2004, she conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Taiwan, under the supervision of Professor Julie Wang. Afterwards, Ms. An returned to teaching at Vinh University.

From 2005 to the present, she has worked at the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. She was recognized as an associate professor, won an award from the Institute of Mathematics, and received a scholarship for outstanding research from the Humboldt Foundation (Germany) in 2009. In 2015, Ms. An received her Doctor of Science degree from Clermont Ferrand 2 Blaise Pascal University (France).

Ms. An's main research areas include: Nevanlinna theory and its applications, the degeneracy of analytical mappings, and problems involving Diophant approximations.

She has supervised three doctoral students who successfully defended their dissertations, completed four ministerial-level scientific research projects, published 33 scientific articles in prestigious international journals, and authored two books on mathematics.
