Vietnam ranked 2nd at the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad

On the morning of July 30, the Ministry of Education and Training received information about the official results of the Vietnamese national team participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) 2024 held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Vietnamese national team had 4 students competing; as a result, all 4 students won medals, including: 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal.

The Gold Medal winners include: Nguyen Huu Tien Hung, 12th grade student, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh province; Giap Vu Son Ha, 12th grade student, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang province; Tran Dang Khoi, 12th grade student, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi city.

The Silver Medal winner is Do Phu Quoc, a 12th grade student at Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted, Quang Nam province.

The 56th International Chemistry Olympiad was held from July 21 to July 30, 2024, with the participation of 327 contestants from 89 countries and territories.

The exam consists of a theory test and a practical test, each lasting 5 hours.

This year's practical exam is considered to have many new and topical points, requiring candidates to have the ability to think comprehensively and perform operational skills accurately.

In the medal tally compared to other national teams, the Vietnamese team ranked second with the US team and only behind the Chinese team.

This year's achievements of the Vietnamese national team continue the impressive achievements at ICHO (Chemistry) competitions in the past 5 years.

Accordingly, with a total of 20 contestants competing from 2020 to 2024, the Vietnamese delegation excellently won 20/20 medals, including 17 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals, continuously being in the top 3 leading countries in terms of the number of Gold Medals.

This achievement continues to affirm the quality of spearhead general education alongside mass education; at the same time, affirms the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training./.
