Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) has just announced the results of the "Survey on Overseas Travel Intentions During the 2024 Chuseok Holiday" conducted from August 1 to 7 with 1,270 people aged 18 and over who have a history of departing through Incheon Airport within the past 5 years.
Survey results show that more than 1 in 10 Koreans plan to travel abroad during this Chuseok holiday.
According to the survey results, 11.2% of respondents (97% confidence level, ±1.27%) said they planned to travel abroad during the holiday.
This is the highest figure since the first survey was conducted in 2020. South Koreans' intention to travel abroad has steadily increased from 1.9% in 2020 to 2.0% in 2021, 3.2% in 2022 and 9.3% in 2023.
The response rate for “I plan to travel short distances” was 74.8%, up 3.9% from 70.9% in 2023.
The most popular tourist destinations were Japan with 31.1% and Vietnam ranked second with 18.0%.
Reasons for choosing the destination include short flight distances, low exchange rates and cost-effectiveness.
Survey respondents said they wanted to travel with family and relatives 60.9%, with friends and lovers 20.5%, alone 12.6% and with colleagues 4.0%.
IIAC estimates that an average of 201,000 people will use Incheon Airport every day during the special transportation measures for the Chuseok holiday from September 13-18./.
