Vietnam hopes to strengthen cooperation with Poland at multilateral forums

(Chinhphu.vn) - In the context of many complex changes in the world, Vietnam wishes to continue to cooperate more closely with Poland, not only in bilateral fields but also at multilateral forums, contributing to building a stable and prosperous world, according to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang.

Speaking at the ceremony to celebrate the 234th anniversary of the Polish Constitution Day held on May 15 in Hanoi , Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her appreciation for the traditional friendship between the two countries.

The Constitution of the Republic of Poland, promulgated in 1791, was the first democratic constitution in Europe and the second in the world , after the United States Constitution. It is a symbol of the Polish people's patriotism, desire for freedom and progress.

Although Vietnam and Poland are geographically far apart, they share many similarities in the history of the struggle for independence and the process of building and defending the country. Therefore, the people of the two countries always have deep sympathy and sincere friendship for each other.

2025 will be a milestone of special significance in bilateral relations, when Vietnam and Poland celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

"Poland is one of the first ten countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. This is the deepest proof of the close relationship and valuable support that the Polish people have given to Vietnam in the struggle for independence, unification and national defense," the Deputy Minister emphasized.

Over the past decades, Poland has supported Vietnam in training thousands of excellent students - who later became the core force in nation building and an important bridge between the two countries.

On this occasion, Vietnam would like to congratulate the Polish Government and people on the great achievements they have made in recent times — making Poland one of the most dynamically developing economies, among the 20 largest economies in the world, with an increasingly important role in regional organizations and international forums.

In its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, Vietnam always attaches importance to and prioritizes promoting relations with traditional friendly countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland.

The friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Poland have developed positively in many fields in recent times. Leaders of the two countries regularly maintain high-level contacts and exchanges, and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding and trust.

The official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Poland in January 2025, right before the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (February 4, 1950 - February 4, 2025), was extremely successful and opened up important directions for a new phase of cooperation. The two sides agreed to soon upgrade bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership.

In terms of economy and trade, Poland is currently Vietnam's leading trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe, while Vietnam is Poland's important trade partner in Southeast Asia. The two sides are actively taking advantage of opportunities from the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), aiming to increase bilateral trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the coming time.

Cooperation in the fields of education, training, defense, science and technology, security, culture and labor is also being strongly promoted.

In the context of a volatile global situation, Vietnam once again affirms its desire to further strengthen cooperation with Poland at multilateral mechanisms, contributing to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and the world.

"With the attention of the leaders and efforts of the people of the two countries, the Vietnam - Poland relationship will continue to be raised to new heights, becoming increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective in all fields," Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed.

On the Polish side, Ms. Joanna Skoczek - Head of the Delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Hanoi - affirmed that with a favorable geographical location that can be considered the "heart" of Europe and assuming the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU) in the first 6 months of 2025, Poland always strives and wishes to strive for a prosperous and safe future for future generations./.
