Vietnam - US complete 2nd round of trade negotiations, achieving positive progress

According to the agreed plan, the second round of negotiations on the Bilateral Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Vietnam and the US will be held from May 19-22, 2025 in Washington DC, USA.

The Vietnamese negotiating delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade , Head of the Government Negotiating Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien.

During the three days of negotiations, with great determination and effort, the Vietnamese and US negotiating delegations discussed all the contents raised before the negotiation session in the spirit of goodwill, frankness, respect for institutions, harmony and balance of interests as well as in accordance with international commitments and the development level of each country.

The two sides spent time providing each other with information on each side's current policies, clarifying the contents of the draft text of the Agreement, and discussing an overall approach to addressing fundamental issues of mutual concern to accelerate the negotiation process.

At the same time, members of the two sides' negotiating delegations had open and constructive discussions on economic and trade issues of core interests of both countries.

At the end of the negotiation round, Vietnam and the US made positive progress, identifying groups of issues on which consensus was reached or views were close, and groups of issues that need further discussion to reach agreement in the coming time.

In addition, the two sides also set time frames for feedback on the draft Agreement, proposed text, and held online meetings to prepare for the next negotiation session.

At the end of the third working day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session with Ambassador and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to agree on the results of the second round of negotiations and point out the contents that need to continue to be focused on in early June.
