On October 15, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Eric Hambly, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Murphy Oil Corporation.
Facilitating foreign investors in the energy sector
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs , at the meeting, the General Secretary highly appreciated the group's long-term investment and business in Vietnam with positive results. He also welcomed the group's policy of expanding and increasing investment in oil and gas exploitation in Vietnam in the coming time.
Affirming that Vietnam attaches importance to its relationship with the US, the General Secretary said energy cooperation is one of the focuses of bilateral relations.
He then shared the vision and strategy for developing Vietnam's energy sector to achieve development goals by 2030 and 2045. This includes requirements for ensuring solid energy security, efficient use of resources, environmental protection and response to climate change.
Expressing optimism about Vietnam's development potential, including the oil and gas industry in the coming years, the General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions for investment and business activities of foreign enterprises in Vietnam in the energy sector, including the US.
He suggested that Murphy Oil Corporation continue to closely coordinate with ministries, branches and Vietnamese partners to speed up the implementation of oil and gas projects in Vietnam. In addition, it should transfer technology, knowledge and enhance the training of high-quality human resources.
For his part, Mr. Eric Hambly shared about the group's business strategy in the world, in which Vietnam continues to be an important partner.
The leaders of Murphy Oil sincerely thank the Vietnamese side for creating favorable conditions and for the close and effective coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the National Energy Industry Group in the group's oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities in recent years.
With the results achieved and belief in Vietnam's strong growth potential in the coming years, Mr. Eric Hambly affirmed that Murphy Oil Group is committed to increasing investment in Vietnam.
The Group will accompany Vietnam in developing the oil and gas industry, transferring technology, and training high-quality human resources as directed by General Secretary To Lam.
Murphy Oil is one of the big names in the US global energy industry, specializing in oil and gas exploration and production. The group has major projects in the US, Canada, Malaysia and recently emerging in Vietnam.
Murphy Oil said on its website that it operates several oil and gas blocks in the Cuu Long and Phu Khanh basins. The group is also investing in the Lac Camel Gold field, aiming to receive first oil in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Also related to the energy sector, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son led a delegation of the Vietnamese Government to visit and work in Russia and attend the 8th "Russian Energy Week" Forum.
At the first plenary session of the forum on October 15, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son answered the issue that interested delegates, which was the Vietnamese Government's plan related to expanding infrastructure and improving technical capacity to receive LNG.
Regarding this, Mr. Son said that the implementation and expansion of LNG port infrastructure investment has been calculated and planned in sync with the progress of gas power plant projects. Accordingly, there will be about 10 - 14 LNG port warehouse clusters for corresponding gas power plants in all regions of Vietnam.
Currently, Vietnamese LNG port and electricity investors are actively implementing and striving to put the factories into commercial operation in the 2028 - 2030 period.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam welcomes investors to exchange and share experiences, thereby improving the capacity to develop and operate LNG port infrastructure with companies from Russia and other countries around the world.
