Attending the ceremony were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh , Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, along with leaders of the Party, State; armed forces, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, leaders of provinces and cities and 1,000 delegates.
The predecessor of the armed forces of Military Region 5 was the Ba To guerrilla team and other guerrilla and self-defense teams that emerged during the anti-Japanese national salvation movement.
Over the past 80 years, generations of officers and soldiers of Military Region 5 have united to overcome difficulties, made sacrifices and achieved resounding victories.
Military Region 5 was honored to be awarded the Gold Star Order twice by the Party and State, the Ho Chi Minh Order three times, and other noble medals and awards.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of its founding, the President signed a decision to award a commendation. Ho Chi Minh Medal for Military Region 5.
Speaking at the ceremony on the afternoon of October 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the 80-year history of Military Region 5 is an immortal epic of patriotism; the crystallization of the will for independence and the aspiration for freedom and happiness.

The Prime Minister requested the forces of Military Region 5 to promote their combined strength, actively participate in supporting economic development, and carry out specific and practical defense foreign affairs work in accordance with the foreign policy of our Party and State.
Emphasizing the need to grasp the situation, the Prime Minister said that the past 80 years have shown that what has happened in Military Region 5 is very fierce. Therefore, the Prime Minister requested to grasp the area firmly and have appropriate countermeasures to prevent risks from afar.
"We expect and believe that the armed forces of Military Region 5 will continue to uphold their glorious tradition. Strive to achieve many feats and achievements, making greater contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland to forever be worthy of the trust and love of our Party, State and People..." - said the Prime Minister.
