Vietnam - Russia promote cooperation in the field of sports

On the morning of September 10, in Hanoi, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Le Thi Hoang Yen had a meeting and worked with Ms. Anna Vetoshkina, First Secretary - Russian Embassy in Hanoi. The meeting focused on important work related to sports cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.

At the beginning of the working session, Ms. Anna Vetoshkina expressed her thanks to the leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration and invited the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Sports Administration to attend the 13th International Sports Forum - "Russia - a sports power" organized by the Russian Federation in Samara city from November 5-7, 2025.

The Forum's Organizing Committee hopes that Vietnam will have a speech at the first Conference, which will be held within the framework of the Forum of Ministers and Senior Officials in the field of sports and member countries in dialogue on cooperation in Asia.

In response to the invitation and proposal from Ms. Anna Vetoshkina, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Le Thi Hoang Yen affirmed that the Vietnam Sports Administration, with its function as a consulting unit on state management in the field of sports nationwide, will convey the words and specific plans on activities within the framework of the Forum to the Ministry's leaders for consideration and decision to send staff to attend this important event.

Over the past time, Vietnam and the Russian Federation have always had a good relationship, based on the long-standing traditional friendship between the two countries. In 2014, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of sports, thereby conducting active delegation exchanges to help Vietnamese Sports make certain progress. In February 2024, the Vietnamese Phygital Basketball team successfully overcame strong opponents in the world to win the championship at the "Games of Future" Olympics held in Kazan. Then, in September 2024, leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation discussed sports cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the 25th Session of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee.

Along with that, in recent times, Vietnam has repeatedly supported Russia's candidates in international sports federations, typically the International Chess Federation, the International Boxing Federation...

To further promote cooperation in the field of sports, Vietnam hopes to continue to receive support, assistance and cooperation in training and coaching in some of Russia's strong sports. In addition, in the coming time, Vietnam requests the Russian Federation to facilitate the reception of some Vietnamese sports to train in Russia such as Boxing, Athletics, etc.

In addition, the two sides will continue to encourage Russian and Vietnamese athletes to participate in sports events held in the two countries' territories, and continue to support each other at international sports organizations and world sports forums.
