Vietnam strives to contribute to strengthening ASEAN-Mexico cooperation

On August 8 (local time), Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai took over the position of Chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee in Mexico (ACMC) from Malaysian Ambassador to Mexico Jamal Johan.

According to a VNA reporter in Mexico, the handover ceremony took place solemnly at the Malaysian Embassy in Mexico City with the participation of heads of diplomatic missions of ASEAN countries in Mexico.

Receiving the rotating Chairmanship of ACMC, Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai highly appreciated and congratulated Malaysian Ambassador Jamal Johan on his excellent performance as Chairman of ACMC during his term, and affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy will make the greatest efforts to promote the achieved results and make practical contributions to strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and Mexico.

In particular, Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai said that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN (1995 - 2025). Vietnam is more aware of its responsibility to proactively participate and make practical contributions to ASEAN's common work, continue to carry out ASEAN's mission and spread the Association's achievements.

At the meeting, ASEAN Ambassadors and Chargé d'Affaires in Mexico City expressed their belief that the Vietnamese Ambassador will successfully fulfill his role as ACMC Chair in the coming time, contributing to further enhancing the image and position of ASEAN countries in Mexico and the region.

Representatives of ASEAN diplomatic missions in Mexico also agreed with Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai's proposal on the ACMC's upcoming program of activities, according to which, ACMC will continue to promote foreign affairs activities to strengthen solidarity within ASEAN as well as relations with Mexico and countries in the Latin American region.

On the same day, the ACMC delegation also solemnly held the ASEAN Flag Raising Ceremony to celebrate the 58th anniversary of ASEAN's founding (August 8, 1967 - August 8, 2025) - an official tradition proudly celebrated by ASEAN Embassies in Mexico to spread and promote ASEAN identity, affirming the determination to unite and cooperate for the common aspiration of long-term peace and prosperity of Southeast Asian countries under the common roof of the ASEAN Community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Malaysian Ambassador to Mexico Jamal Johan affirmed the growing role and position of ASEAN. In the context of a volatile, unstable and unpredictable world situation with conflicts and divisions, ASEAN continues to be a model of success in regional cooperation and connectivity.

According to Ambassador Jamal Johan, over the past 58 years, cooperation within ASEAN and cooperation between ASEAN and external partners under the cooperation mechanism built by ASEAN with ASEAN as the center has been gradually expanded and contributed to the strengthening of the ASEAN Community, as well as the common cause of protecting and promoting peace, stability and development in the region and the world, as well as the common cause of protecting and promoting peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
