The steel consumption market in the first half of 2025 faces many obstacles, as the export channel sharply decreases in both output, value and export price.
According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), in the first 6 months of the year, finished steel production reached 15.825 million tons, up 9.7%. Finished steel sales reached 15.727 million tons, up 10.2% over the same period in 2024.
In June 2025 alone, Vietnam exported 931,365 tons of iron and steel of all kinds, reaching a turnover of 611.5 million USD, up 4.3% in volume and 1.9% in value compared to May 2025.
However, in the first 6 months of the year, the total export output reached 5.66 million tons, worth 3.70 billion USD, down 13% in volume and 22.5% in value compared to the same period in 2024. The main reason came from the plunge in steel prices on the international market, causing export turnover to decrease more sharply than the decrease in output.

VSA said that the steel market in the past 6 months has faced many challenges related to tariff barriers, trade defense measures, political conflicts, a series of new policies and unstable developments in the steel market, and global political conflicts, which will affect steel consumption demand.
The second half of 2025 continues to be a period of strong recovery for the domestic market, with production and consumption output forecast to increase. However, exports continue to face difficulties, and global prices are under pressure from excess supply.
